Most mags will take a few passes down the 1/4 and post the best time, MT frequently will do dozens of passes just to find the best launch, then some more to find ideal shift points and whatnot. Conditions also play a big part - a cool, sunny day at low altitude would yield a much better result than a hot, humid day at a couple thousand feet.

As for the other mags, they most likely quoted 's published time rather than doing their own testing.
Really, "dozens of passes". It's funny to read how people that aren't there make wild assumptions on how it gets done. Typically it's about five passes or less to get the number. Remember that Motor Trend testers are professionals at testing. That's what they do and why they work where they do because they are the best. "Dozens of passes", you crack me up...

Huh, what? Most Volvos since the 850-series was introduced are front wheel drive. Some of the newer ones have all-wheel drive, but the majority are FWD.

I had 2 friends clock my ra 2 different times as they rode in the passenger seat from dead stop to 60mph... with competition stopwatches...mine ran 6.2, and 6.4 easily...probably could get a 6.0 if i were better on the shift...no mods other than drop-in K&N and 93 octane...period.

how do they know exactly when you got to 60? looking at the dial would be tough, especially from an angle. you'd need to hook into the ecu, plus you have to acount for at least a +-.1 second human delay on both start and stop

Motor Trend uses the same type of radar (Ka band) that many police agencies use. It comes with its own dedicated software to allow any measurement as related to speed, time and/or distance.
