After doing some research on the 08+ Lancer section, I have good reason to believe that the RA can take a 8" wide wheel in a +35 to +40ish offset using a 235mm wide tire. That's why if I really do end up getting one the first thing I will do is drop by my buddies house who has an extra set of EVO 8 OEM wheels and tires and do a test fit. If that's confirmed to fit then there are plenty of great sticky tire choices in 235/45/17 or 235/40/18. Although not a cure all I'm sure a great set of lighter wheels and good tires will go a long ways of improving the handling.

true. Keep in mind that you probably will not notice this on the street. Im sure the ralliart will drive great on the street regardless of tires. The track is where people will notice the lack of breaking and cornering g's.

Agreed. I'm planning on getting the RA as my daily driver since my 350Z is my main track car anyhow. I probably still would track the RA though a few times just for the novelty of the TC-SST.

Anyhoo this whole thread has gone pretty much OT. Hopefully there will be an aftermarket solution for a launch control. What would even be of greater vaule is if there was an aftermarket solution for the Super Sport Mode.

So I was thinking why not just copy over the TC-SST programming from an MR into the RA? No cracking knowledge needed.

Powerbands are different in both cars. That would probably create a huge slug.

Somewhere read that try to convert the ralliart into an evo is going to be a huge task, I mean, mitsu engineers left behind some walls that has to be climbed if people want to enter the evo territory. Still can be done, but aint gonna be easy.
Why dont just buy an evo ??

Power bands have nothing to do with it. A TCU has programming in it that works in sync with the ECU to tell the tranny when to shift in terms of RPM. The 'how' part is a done deal for both RA and MR. The RA is just missing some key features from the MR programming to make it the same concept. So as long as both TCU's are the same unit, then the software programming can be copied over and the additional code can be taken advantage of.

EDIT: Some more research is revealing that the ECU and TCU in both cars are different. Plus the tranny uses taller gearing for 5 and 6 to make it more economy friendly. Maybe the tranny in the RA is slightly more different than the MR? Here's hoping it's still just a software change.

Peak torque in the RA is 1000 RPM lower than in the X, besides the gear differences in 5 and 6. So, Yes, it does make a difference. The TCU cannot just be reprogrammed with the X numbers because the engine is not making power at the RPM the trans will want to run based on the X powerband. Hence SLUGGISH. The whole point of SST is to keep the trans in the optimum gear/powerband for the engine. If you have a different engine with the same trans program it will be way off the peak performance.
