Stock Evo launch
Stock Evo launch
I went to the track last night and got a 14.23@96.2 and i think my launches are whats holding me back. my 60' times were 2.0-2.2. im letting the clutch out fast at 4500 which results in a bog to 3k then taking off once boost spools up. my launches were pretty tame i suppose but it was the first time ive been to the track and i wasn't used to launching with time pressure (lights). ive seen posts on this forum to the effect of the stock launch is drop it at 6k? what do you guys think of that? I've tried the "hold it at 5-6k with clutch slip launch" but althought it *seems* fast, i dont have any numbers to back it up and that results in acrid clutch stench in the cabin, which i have to say doesnt exactly give me the warm fuzzies. I have to drive my evo to work and i can't afford to break it right now. I'm looking forward to seeing your opinions...
let the clutch out at higher rpms like 6000. although i got my best 60' times of 1.7 when i let the clutch out at 5500 but right now im just experimenting. you'll know when u launch it right cause it will throw ur *** in the seat.

Ok first thing to deal with is, you drive a AWD turbo car. This means you must bounce the rpms so you can spool the turbo on each upswing of the rpms. Do this so that it hits your target rpm for the launch. Now when you are ready to launch, release the clutch in one quick move of your leg as the rpms are on an upswing and just as you hit your target rpm. The rev and hold way only works for NA cars.
Another trick is to not hold the pedal to the floor. When your staging you will bump the car into the lights. This is your friction point at where the car wants to move forward. Hold the clutch at that point just so it is below it and the car wont move once your staged. This makes shallow staging very easy and since your doing this your ready to rev since the clutch is in the stop you want it. Now all you have to do is the first thing I said up above and your ready to pull some good 60 ft times.
I used this to run my friends evo and pulled a 1.77 and then a 1.71 on his stage 1+.
Now launching my Audi is a hand full. I launch at 6500-7000 rpms.
Yeah...
You want to launch around 6000 to 6500. I pulled a pathetic 14.01. The one thing that made me feel better was that the humidity that day was horrible. I was running right before it rained. At one point, the humidity was 95%. A few minutes later it was 99%. My friend has a highly modified WRX and is able to run mid to high 12's. His times that day were not good either. He was running mid 13's that day which is not good for him. Make sure the weather is good too. Humidity kills turbo cars.

4000 grand i dont really bog unless i get nervous...just release the clutch and put as much gas as ur letting off the clutch its not that hard....i used to smell the clutch big time but now i barely get the scent
Man what is going on, can I get an EVO already, because somebody got to know how to drive AWD. I thought my 1.9s were crappy in my VR4. Look you need to work on more than just your launching, you may want to work on your shifting too, because 96MPH is pretty low. You should trap at 99MPH+ even with not so good 60FT times. Make note of all the advice here and just go back out and practice, practice, I'm sure you will get it, try launching at different RPMs, but I would suggest 5500RPM and higher. It took me awhile to get 1.9s, and I still had a lot to learn.
