The difference between 10W and 5W is at 32 Degrees F. The 5 W allows for easier starting when the temps drop. If you are only looking at temps around 0 F to -10F, Don't worry. If your car sits outside it may start a little harder in Sub 0 Temps. Just let it warm up a few minutes before driving. I always try to wait until I am getting some good heat from the vents before I drive.

Just don't cut it too short... The Lab we use is the best in the US but where they do lack is their getting the kits out in a timely manner...

We will be bringing them back to our own warehouses, but it is looking like that won't be for 30-60 days.

oil gets black after couple hundred miles in your car. Judging the quality of your oil by the color is not something you should go on.

^^ stay at 10w30, it's perfectly fine. If it's really really cold outside in the negatives then you'll need to go lower to like 5. 5 will make it easier for the engine to run when first started up. Take 10w30 for instance. At cold temperatures it will have a 30 weight, as the oil heats up it will get to a 30 weight. Most people will say you want to stick with the smaller difference between the first and 2nd weight. Basically if it's not gonna ever get cold where you live, texas I assume, 10w30 is perfectly fine.

No on the 5W... 5W is for colder temps.. Unless you were to go to AMSOIL SSO which is a 0W-30, stay with the 10W

AMSOIL SSO 0W-30 is an excellent All Weather oil...

If your oil is getting black in a couple hundred miles...

A: You have a Diesel... If not, See B

B: You have some issue such as fuel dilution that needs to be addressed.

I should correct myself. I mean to say FEW hundred miles. Looking at your oil and saying hey, it's black! It's time to change my oil is the totally wrong way of judging the life of the oil. Oil doesn't stay browish yellowish color in your engine. All the comments about changing oil and it looks black and i should have changed it sooner is redicious. You're oil will be black if you change it at 1K, 2K, 3K or 7K. The only way is to do a test on the oil.

I heard that the break in prodedure is that for the first 3 oil changes, use a non-synthetic, and after that, switch. Im going to get my first oil change today, and i want to do the right thing...someone tell me please...synthetic or non-synthetic!?
