Hmmmmmmm....

I thought it was fact that Getrag was the designer/supplier of the SSTs.

Now according to http://www.dctfacts.com/otr_pg2.asp
"..Developed in-house by Mitsubishi with the co-operation of BorgWarner and Getrag, it is a wet-clutch six-speed..."

Of course, that doesn't mean that Getrag can't be a manufacturer.

this site: http://www.themotorreport.com.au/425...ide-the-evo-x/ indicates "..and thanks to the Getrag Corporation with its new 6DCT470 Transmission.."

Looking at an old Getrag press release http://www.getrag.de/media/0000000997.pdf it states "This wet clutch technology will be officially launched on the market by Ford, Volvo and Mitsubishi by the end of 2007 / early 2008. "

Here http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m.../ai_n31060979/ we also read "One of the leaders in the field is Getrag. Its PowerShift transmission was first fitted to the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, introduced at the end of 2007."

Lastly, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeMwC_Cu094 go to 3:45 of this mitsubishi training video, and they indicate it's the W6DGA manufactured by Getrag. I think that's the final nail in the coffin.

Thanks for the article .. very entertaining ..

When you look at the dates of the articles you posted .. they are circa Pre Launch of the SST .. ALL speculations .. except for the 'mitsubishi training video' .. but then .. there's already quite a few flaws in their briefings if you listen carefully ..

I am more inclined to believe the 1st article .. a joint development and NOT the 6DCT470 from Getrag ..

The previous auto Evo was already rated to 510ftlbs on the gearbox .. and I'm quite sure the newer gearbox will be around the same ..

Anyway ..thanks for your time .. just wanted to get this off my chest ..

yes, typically that total price is installed & re-checked. If under warranty you don't pay, the manufacturer does, & they keep the core on the old unit to send back for testing & evaluation.

I had doubts about this tranny ever since VW used that version (DSG) on 08' R32.
Seems pretty sensitive, but since I gave up on my dying EVO, & could'nt swing the extra payments/insurance for a X, I'm cool w/ this car as long as I don't heavily mod it. If you want to heavily mod for the price, you should have gone for the EVO X GSR base.

Ya, the same getrag that made the transfer case that blew-up on my old VIII. Borg warner made the sequential shift 6speed a few years ago audi/vw/probably lambo ect.... now nissan GTR & some others adopt similar gearbox. It has been around a little.

I'm not stating for a fact that Getrag builds the gearboxes, because I don't know. I thought it was widely accepted as a fact. Certainly, it's interesting if it isn't. I'd imagine mitsubishi isn't trying to keep it a secret, though..

Besides ZF, BW, and getrag, who else can it be? I don't think mitsu has a gearbox plant in germany.

Gunzo, don't you have an SST? I'd imagine there would be a stamping somewhere on that box.

The OP said that Mitsu will be picking up the tab under warranty repair. I don't buy the 15K price tag. I believe that's what Mitsu told the OP, but they inflated the cost no doubt, probably to scare owners away from modding their cars. Never underestimate the power of "word of mouth" in the day of the internet.

Then again, I could be wrong.

That could be true. But then again, wouldn't they want people to void warranties? I think this is Hyundai's goal with the turbo gen coupe.

Yeah, but at the same time Mitsu knows they are not going to catch every mod, so they want to scare off the casual modders, while keeping the hard core guys to do the damage. I think they want to see guys like AMS doing the work and breaking warranties, it helps their R&D and doesn't cost 'em a dime.
