Transmission smell?

I just picked my RA up Wednesday morning.

Ever since then, when I'm stopped at a light [with windows down] or when I park the car and walk out, I can smell a burning clutch! Is this normal for break-in? Or am I doing something wrong?

One time, in a parking lot while in the Park position, I rev'd my engine a couple times [terrible, I know] and I instantly regretted it. That burning clutch smell was real prodominant, at that point. Anyone else have/had this issue?

well revn your engine in park isnt THAT bad lol but if you do rev it to the red line, then yes.. but its normal for break in. atleast that how it was for me. you should be fine.

LOL, yeah. I know it isn't a good thing to rev the engine to 5000rpm's or above during the break-in period, so that's why I figured it was a no-no.

Thanks for the positive assurance. I feel better now.

first few days smelled bad, after that no more issues, at least for me, now it's just that new car smell . I thought it was the brakes, but maybe not.

a lot of new cars have a burning smell to them for the first couple hundred miles or more. im not quite sure why but the past 3 i bought did that and then after a couple hundred miles it went away. maybe its burning off som protectant coat the manufacturer puts on the engine? dunno?

...kaiten2 is right.

there are "protective coatings" on alot of the areas of the car.

don't forget these cars are SHIPPED from japan.

if the smell persists more than a week or at any time gets worse........

............head back to the dealer !

When my RA had about 100 miles on it, I slowly took it on an empty stretch of road to about 5500rpm in 3rd and eased back from it, just to race the motor a bit and break it in. Aside from that I've been shifting at 3000-3500. A few spirited drives where I'd go to 4500 now that I have about 7-800 mi on it.

I loved that burnt smell though. I enjoyed walking extra close to the car walking down my driveway just to smell the scent through the hood vents...

LMAO. I am pretty attracted to the scent as well, but the scent put up some warning flares. So I figured I'd ask.

I lost the smell under the hood after a week or two, but even after half a year, my exhaust still smells of half-burnt carbon/hydrocarbons sometimes. Just figured it was the rich fuel mix -- anyone else suffer from something like this odour from their exhaust?
