Really pumped about 2011 RA!
Speaking of 4Runner... one of the choices I was faced with was RA or Rav4 V6. I found it insane that my RA is getting 17/25 while the larger Rav4 (which is pretty much an SUV) with a 270hp V6 4WD gets something like 19/26.
Yeah, My Ralliart doesn't get much better gas mileage then my 4Runner did but it sure as hell is way more fun to drive. The Rav4, is it part time 4WD or all time?
Honestly I have no idea. My only guess is that it's FWD until it slips. It's sure fun to drive but some days... I keep thinking that the Rav4 would've been as fast in a straight line, better mileage, and more storage space. Plus I keep second guessing cause my Ralliart was a total impulse purchase. It was literally like one of those "I'll take it!" moments at the dealership.
Oh goodie, another SST debate.
Should I skip the part where I point out that the Bugatti Veyron and Nissan GT-R both run twin clutch "automatic" transmissions. At which point someone points out that the GT-R has transmission problems with launch control. I then reply that the performance upgrade clutch packs have proven to hold up well under 800whp and run insanely fast without using launch control as demonstrated by Hennessey.
Or should I just skip to the part where everyone should just buy whatever the heck works best for them?
OP, if you want a WRX then go buy one, they are perfectly excellent cars. If you sit around waiting for this or that to become available on a different car you may never take the plunge. Just my 2 cents.

I cannot even understand why I'd even consider an EVO! I want a nice, practical, 4WD hatchback with some performance, nice handling and an affordable price. If I have some money left, I'm surely not gonna waste it on an EVO... I simply don't care about that car. If you guys are drooling over one, get one... I don't care in any case.
And yeah, I drove the current RA and the SST is a pig on launch (IMO at least). It's like the car is bogging down or something. No, I'd say the car actually cannot launch. Very disappointing. And I still hate those paddle-shifty-thingys. Why bother? If it's automatic, leave it in automatic. Since we mostly do city driving, I cannot see the interest: I like launching the car from a complete stop. The fact that I'm not actually doing the actual shifting would not help either: That's something I like to do. So to each his own: You guys drive your Nintendo-on-wheels and I'll be having my nice, simple M/T. I know how to operate a clutch, so it shouldn't be a problem.
Don't get me wrong: The WRX's tranny is just fine... but I liked the 04' RA's tranny even more. So it's just normal that I'd wait until I'm certain they'll not decide to offer a M/T on the RA. Plus the RA looks better. Then again, the WRX is okay once you've replaced the ugly grill and installed normal tail lights.
Now, I've got better things to do than to endlessly discuss this with what sounds to me like very young people... so you go ahead without me folks. As I said, since the news is in fact just a rumor, this thread should have already been closed anyway. A nice week to you all!

It's (almost) completely understandable to only want a standard manual. There's no use in arguing an opinion. What I would argue is many of the misconceptions you seem to have regarding automated manuals.
The slow launches are obviously due to the hefty weight of the car, and the fact that clutch engagement at launch is at low RPMs. Just about any 4-cyl turbo accelerates like that under those conditions. However, there are ways of getting pretty good lunches, as I believe AMS has an R/A that ran something like a 12.9 in the 1/4 mile.

Either way, you make a post about something that has been discussed endlessly then proceed to call the posters in this thread immature. Don't bother admitting you screwed up by opening a thread on a subject that has already been debunked, instead insult people who like the RA's.

I have driven manual, auto, and the ralliart, and none of the trannys feel the same. And in my personal opinion I like the ralliart the best because if you wanna do manual then you can, and its pretty damn close to a normal manual, but it does have some big differences. Or if your in town and are too lazy to want manual, then you pop it over to auto mode and your g2g. I think its brilliant
TC-SST because it was automatic, my wife doesn't want to drive a stick here in the Philly area. Or it would have been either the GSR, Si or the MS3. Next spring we are plopping down some serious cash for a GSR and keeping the R/A for the wife.
swore to the high heavens for the past 10 years that i would never EVER buy a car with anything less than a traditional manual tranny up until the day i drove an X and an RA with the tc-sst...bought an RA two weeks later. just saying, people who are as hard-headed as I once was about this whole auto-clutch debate really need to stop A) mistaking the sst for an automatic tranny and B) giving their 2 cents when theyve never driven the thing! go test drive an sst vehicle THEN come comment on its merits/drawbacks.
