Even with zero mods, if the car goes in for service, can the chip be read to determine whether the car is tracked? I mean, the relative rpm's, speed and breaking characteristics over short periods of time could easily be interrupted if they were stored. That would be a hell-of-alot of data to be saved but who knows?

weather the warranty is voided is at the discretion of your particular dealer, and weather you let them know you have it.
This is true, the dealer here, southside mitsubishi will install all the mods in house and even send it out for a dynotune, All good as long as they do it, there was a customer that bought a 2010 MR and added everything on, financed it and the bill came out to 60g's, that's a **** load of money to spend on the EVO if you ask meOriginally Posted by Cosis

First off if you do any performance mod to the engine (other than a drop-in filter) you'll have to flash/tune it. Once you tune it = warranty hosed. There is an encrypted code within your ECU from the factory, once altered by flash/tune that factory data is erased,,, voiding the warranty. The only solution to this that I can think of and previously mentioned by NYCZLEGACY is the COBB A/P. However I am not for sure on this because I don't know if it saves the encrypted data in its stock tune file (contact COBB performance). As you may have gathered Mitsu is infamous for not standing by their warranty, especially with performance cars. It really depends on how lucky you feel, and how deep your pockets are on whether or not to mod.
Well, i see now it's pretty clear what my options are......keep it basically stock while under warranty.
Many thanks for all the posts.

I work for a mitsu service dept. The dealer can void your warranty if you har to many mods, but it also depends on how cool you are with your advisor. Guys come here all the time with modded evo's and Ralliarts and asmlong as they're cool, I take care of them. They also take care of me ($). it varies from dealer to dealer. If you guys need any info, hit me up.

I have an 06 we TBE/filter and a tune. Brought to my dealer regarding noise coming from timing belt and I was just honest and told them what I have. They were very cool about it. Got my timing belt replaced under warranty.

If you flash it back to stock, they cannot tell. All they can tell is that the ecu was reset. Resetting your ECU will not void your warranty...disconnecting or changing your battery does the same thing. C&D had a nice article not long ago about this argument.Originally Posted by FasterNU08
