Maybe a video would be better

Reading the Manual last night (US pg 3-132), I think this has to do with the "Hill Start Assist" 'Feature' When you are in Drive, with your foot on the brake, and you move from brake to accelerator, the brake slowly releases pressure, about 2 sec.

There is a note: "The Hill Start Assist will not operate if the accelerator is pressed before the brake is released"

So, it sounds like left foot on the brake, then tap accelerator to get into boost, then Launch, I have not tried this yet, as I want to add some more 'normal' miles to the engine/trans first.

Ah westbound got the boot, again. Think that was big number 4, definitely not the last. Odd thing is I thought he sold his RA months ago.
Anyway, Rocky I know what your talking about but I prefer brakes, but, to each his or her own. I think the OP found some answers, mixed amongst the angst ridden mumbojumbo.

No prob man, I thought I figured this out and I was the only one LOL. I was actually gonna post but then I scrolled down and saw this thread. The other day I launched it hard when I WOT @ 4K. Was nutz!!! Although for some reason the car did not let me rev any higher then 4K no matter how fast I tapped the gas. But when I did that tap and release at 4K you can hear the turbo spooling up and when I hit WOT it was mad crazy fast. Almost got some whiplash!!!

You say you do it without using the brake but in the video you say you use the brake?

"Just tap the gas quickly while pressing the brake pedal"

"Now at the same time release the brake pedal, floor the gas all the way down..."

uhm....that is how EVERYONE does it!

I remember someone here saying that he never touches the brake pedal even while tapping the gas.

I was referring to what he said, well that was what I understood. LOL

That was what seemed crazy to me as well. There was clearly at least one reference earlier in the thread to tapping on the accelerator without using the brakes at all. I would most definitely enjoy seeing a video of that launch method actually doing something different than each of my attempts with this method. I suspect anyone who tried got the same results as I did, the car consistently just lunges forward at the first tap on the accelerator.

Imagine that???

When attempting this type of launch the car naturally rolls forward slightly while you are tapping the gas. I don't think I can put it any simpler then just tapping. When I mean tapping I don't mean tap the gas for 1 second then release. I mean tap for a fraction of a second then release. If you play that video again you can hear his foot tapping the gas. The taps are quite quick. You can hold the brake to prevent the car for rolling forward as you tap, it does not make a difference either way. If you brake launch your car you can ruin your clutches, with this method there is less strain on your transmission.

no, i've tried repeatedly and finally was able to get it to work without the car lurching forward. its a very light, quick tap at the gas pedal and then you have to pull away really quickly as well and then just repeat. the best time to learn to do it is actually as you are decelerating without braking. just try and blip the gas pedal one time super quickly and the car will act like its trying to rev-match before re-engaging the clutches. that's the basic effect you're going for

i actually do it in traffic now just for fun because its like sitting in a manual car with the clutch in waiting for a light i can have the brake pedal untouched with minimal rolling and keep burping the gas and bouncing the revs. i can only get it up to about 2k before it starts to move tho. with more practice i can probably go higher

It does take a little practice, but when you get it right and can tap all the way to 4k rpm you will have whiplash LOL

Ok, did a quick video today, 0-60

Dry pavement, ASC off, Sport Mode, Left Foot Brake, couple taps on the Accelerator, then WOT
