Starting up inconsistency

Today for the first time The car hard the hardest time to start up. I had to turn it over and hold it for 5 seconds several times before the car would roar to life. During turning it over the display said i needed service and check oil. After the car started up there was no service indication or check for oil. the temperature was -9 C.

Other attempts to start the vehicle in -20 C were successful but like others posted it would sound like its running on 2 cylinders, rev at 200 rpm then after a minute would run normally and rev at 1.5k rpm.

My question is why would this bee happening?

Also, last question does your engine have a quick ticking sound when you have it running as well when you start it up?

Thanks for any tips

C

go here and read the whole thread.

The newest relays is somewhere on the last 2 pages.
That should help you out with your problem. I just ordered 4 of the new black relays and the new MFI relay as well for 47$ including shipping from Mitsubishiparts.net

and yes, our cars have a fast ticking noise, from what ive heard around here on the forums, thats our fuel injectors.

Ahh cool. I called up my dealer and they have some blue ones.

So, why would you get 4 of them?

If you look inside the fuse box under the hood, there are 3 green relays that were made before the blue ones, but they also had problems. Then the blues came out, i heard some problems with those too. And seeing as the main problem with the cold starts is the Fuel pump relay, is a regular black one, thats four that i felt like replacing. Less issues further down the road.

I had the same problem and I brought my car to the dealer. They switched the relay out right away and covered it under the warranty.

If you need it to start to get to the dealer, switch the hightbeam relay with your fuel pump relay. Check your manual a diagram. This should be fine to get you to the dealer, it's what I did.

Went to the dealer and found out that my Starter relay was corroded. Apparently the mechanic that worked on it before got grease in the fuse and it started to oxidize. They used electrical cleaner cleaned it and put a new fuse back in the box till the new electricals get shipped in.

In the meantime they purchased a new electrical box covered under warrenty and will install it once it arrives. w00t.

Problem solved. Thanks everyone.

Its all I have to drive. I don't want it to be a occurring issue. Imagine, you wake up, car wont start, its cold, how the **** will you get to work? lol Especially when it can get to -40 degrees here... I still gotta install a block heater which I will get around to soon.

This happened to me today when I was leaving work for lunch. I had to turn it over a few times and I think it was at the 4th time the car started but it wasn't an easy start, it idled really low before slowly coming up to the proper RPMs.
