On sale for $8600! Wooo!

You can probably factor in another grand or two for labor.

However, if you do it straight thru mitsu, I'm sure it's still ~$12 large all said and done.

Someone here supposedly said it was a straight swap and it came with all the modes, including launch control.

Search function... this question has been beaten to death. Like others have said, if money is tight, don't bother modding. Out of curiousity, have you researched the costs of maintenance every 30k miles on the RA? Its not cheap... you'd be best to save your money for that.

What do you plan on using this car for?

The best mod for these cars are better tires... The stockers are garbage

The 2nd best mod is a driver mod

I wouldn't say that the transmissions are fragile. It's just that the mode of failure and repair is horrific.

At some point, I calculated the TCO over 5 years of the RA to be almost the same as a new Merc C300...

That's some horrible bullsh*t advice at best and could ruin someone's finances at worst. Do NOT sleep with the judge either, I'm sure there are some laws against that.

Check with your lawyer, there may be all of 2 states in the entire country that will let you file for anywhere near the cost of a TC-SST.

Getting friendly with your dealer's always a good idea but just don't rely on it t be 100%. For big ticket items, it's up to HQ. And if HQ sends out an engineer, be prepared to sleep with the engineer. Or if the dealer's the better looking one, sleep with the dealer to convince him to sleep with the engineer. Or both if you wanna cover all your bases.
Umm even going with absolute WORST possible deal you could get to replace the tranny (sssuming it's not just the clutch and can be replaced with better ones)...you are NOT gonna reach anywhere near the 20 grand that double the max limit of california small claims is. For 10 grand, you can pretty much cover the cost of a MR tranny (woot for launch control and super sport mode) swap.

Unless they changed it recently, last I recall, and according to the govt site, it's $7500. http://www.dca.ca.gov/publications/s...ims/file.shtml

Which while close, I'm pretty sure it's still maybe one of a hand full of states that'll even let you get that close. For MOST of the states out there, small claims is a waste of time if someone's trying cover the TCSST, maybe enough for half if not less.

The point for the OP (and anyone else who's tight on cash but wants to mod and remain on warranty) is, pay to play, don't rely on small claims, don't rely on some "act" to protect you when going up against a multi-million dollar corporation. Hell I treat my 100k mile/10yr extended bumper to bumper as a way to mitigate financial risk, not eliminate it.

Sounds like if you even look at the tranny the wrong way it'll take a dump on ya. Just remember to not sneeze or fart anywhere near the car. You might void something.

Wow, that is out of date...we have had a 10k limit for a couple years now. That is why the women who sued honda in small claims here in cali got almost 10 grand before it was overturned. In anycase, the chances that mitsu will even attempt to negate a tranny claim over springs is on the far side of not likely and the point was that even if they went that ridiculous, you had valid recourse.

Once again, I threw that out as an extreme case. But there are hundreds of reasons why they would, could, and can probably get away with, voiding a $10k+ transmission warranty.

If my sst went out, I would have shepard rebuild mine before I would let a dealership touch mine. Plus the fact that having it rebuilt is a couple grand cheaper and will hold up better.
