Do I Need MoleSkin?

I plan on tinting the windows of my 09 Ralliart and have heard that I will need to install moleskins to stop the tint from scratching. But when I looked at my car today (which I bought used) I noticed another 'felt-like' strip. Did this come stock on RA's or did the previous owner add these?

I have an 2010 ralliart sportback, and I need them..

My tints were getting scratched up pretty bad... Brought the moleskin from the tinting place and also paid for installation + free retint. No more scratches on my tints..

Pretty much seems hit or miss. I'll provide an update once I tint mine.

How did it go? Any vertical scratches? Tint shops charge big money to install the felt. You can do it yourself easily. Tint Protector sells the only moleskin that is made for auto's.

I have it on my Lancer and haven't had any problems in two+ years.

My tinted front windows have 1/4 scratches along the top edge of the window where it meets the rubber seal up top. I'm guessing from dust collecting when I have the windows rolled down. I wipe this area down when I wash the car but it doesn't seem to help. anyone else get these scratches? My tint is all the way to the edge of the glass... maybe I should have not opted out of that

Yes, Moleskin does not protect the top edge of the windows... I also have scratches there too. My tinter told me that its non-avoidable.

I think if you wrap the Tint Protector felt over the weather strip seal it will protect the top edge from being damaged?

Update: so I wrapped the top of the weather strip with Tint Protector felt and it worked. No scratches at the top edge of the windows.

It's been about 6 months since I did it and all is well.
