Question Really odd smell

I looked around and couldn't find anyone with similar problem but have any of you guys ever had a smell that's a mix between fuel and nail polish? I was cruising in my car earlier and all of a sudden it started getting a smell of fuel and slight nail polish that's the way i would describe the smell and it comes and go. Today is the first time I have ever had anything like that. The closest thing to this i have ever had was my 04 sti and id turn the ac and would get a strong fuel smell.

Check if your fuel cap is on properly. I had the same thing a couple of weeks ago

Does it linger. Or there and gone?

maybe check all your hoses under the hood, if you have air vents or a/c on it might be drawing in some vapors.
have you touched the fuel pump at all.. the access panel is under the rear seat i think.

Two ideas it may or may not be.

Wasn't a pungent smell was it?
If you had your AC on the day before then off the next day, it could be the bacteria in the pipework making a funky smell. That smell can last for about 5 min before it vents out completely.

Was your recirculate air on?
Wasn't any older cars in front of you while you were driving? If the recirculate function wasn't on perhaps you were smelling the fumes of the car in front?

If its neither of these two then try and find where the cabin air is coming from. Check your exhaust for any leaks too. A cracked gasket may be causing some issues at high exhaust pressures?
