Smallest wheel?

I have been so focused on getting some 16 x 7 or 16 x 8 wheels for a set of good drag radials that I never even looking into weather 16" are the smallest diameter wheels that will fit over our brakes! One of the advantages of the Ralliart over the EVO (on a drag strip, not a road course) is our smaller brake system allowing smaller and thus lighter wheels... can we fit a 15 inch rim, or is 16 the smallest we can go without swapping out the stock brake system?

Thanks,

Keith

we had a set of the 02/03 lancer 0z rims laying around the dealership, and i know the bolt pattern is different, but i was holding them up just to see if i could get away with the same thing when i was trying to get some winter wheels/tires and they would not clear the calipers.

lol, yeah, sorry for not saying that outright. 15s were a no, but the 16s off of a diamante were a go for me.

It is my understanding that 16" is the smallest wheel that will fit the 2008+ Lancer and 2009+ Ralliarts.

i used the aluminum split-6 spoke, but i assume the steelies would fit as well. 205/60-16 tire size gives almost identical overall diameter to stock 215/45-18

this doesnt make a tonne of sense to go so small and ill make my reasoning simple.

The car is AWD, a smaller wheel+more rubber isnt really needed as the car doesnt have launch or grip issues in a quarter mile. A lighter wheel doesnt always mean smaller. Running a 17in or 18 inch wheel that weights as much as the 16, will yield the same advantages.

mostly agreed, but i did it for winter use also, with the 205/60-16 being a much cheaper option (about 50 bucks a tire) than 215/45-18 for the michelin alpin pa3's i use. that was my reasoning.

the only other reason im considering mounting some star spec's on these 16" wheels is to avoid abuse to my summer "show" set. weight loss is more of an afterthought and a pleasant addition than anything else, since im not a die-hard racer, just a weekend warrior on occasion.

Don't forget that with a 16" wheel will always be cheaper and lighter than a 17" or 18" wheel.
You can get 15-17lb 16" wheel where you can't with a 17" or 18"
