Clarity needed on the ECU Tuning...

OK - I've seen these great FREE tuning maps being provided here (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/09...t-basemap.html ) And I would really love to try them out.

Here's what I need clarity on... what cable contraption do I use to reflash the ECU?

I've seen the Tactrix Openport 2.0 adapter, little bit of an inve$$tment. Then I see this ECUFLASH Cable pictured here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ec...beginners.html. (who sells this?)

I'm so confused because one system has the OBDII connector with the little white connector attached with a USB on the other end. And when I Google-search for where to buy one, all I find is either the Tactrix 2.0 "adapter" or now I see this available: "The Galletto 1260 OBDII EOBD ECU Flashing Cable" ( http://www.chinavasion.com/product_i...lashing-cable/ and it's under $20)

So which one of the three could I use? Would the Galletto 1260 work without the little extra one wire/connector? -I read that this one wire is the one that provides the current to put the EPROM into the re-program mode. I can't find a cable that looks like the one in the tutorial posted here.

PLEASE CLARIFY!
thanks
-Joe

the black cable is tactrix cable 1.3 its old get the 2.0 cable thats what i have.

i dont think that china cable will do anything as far as writing to the ecu, it might clear some codes/read codes and it might also screw up your car (not likely) but yea dont waste your money on it.

the reason tactrix 2.0 cable is so expensive is because it helps to fund the open source efforts for ECUFLASH which is the free software needed to program the ecu.

but the 2.0 cable used or new and your set.

NO REFLASH ADAPTERS ARE NEEDED FOR THE X/RALLIART/2008-2011 LANCERS.

AWESOME! - Sweeeetness!!
Thanks for the great info and ultra fast reply. - Makes sense. I'll be savin up for that Tactrix. A local shop owner (who has a Nasty - Super clean Evo 9) has mentioned to me that he has, and uses "OpenECU" - (As for the price I understand and totally support the product development process)

Thanks again.

Taken from the first post in the GST Base map thread:

What you need to flash this to your Ralliart:

1. A laptop. You can find netbooks for $300 and under nowadays, just make sure they are not linux.

2. A Tactrix 2.0 OpenPort reflash cable

3. OpenEcu EcuFlash software

You probably also want to log the car and do any adjustments from there. Evoscan v2.6 works with the Mode23 logging already setup in the rom. This can log ignition timing, knock, boost, etc

The tactrix link was dead so I updated that link.
