De-cat pipe question.

My second post and, of course, it is a question.
I am assuming that the exhaust system on the US Ralliart Sportback is basically the same as the GB/EU one for a 2011 car.
On impulse ( too good an offer to miss type ) I have got a Scorpion Evo X de-cat pipe. i believe that it will fit the Sportback but needs a bit of fiddling (?????).
On the pipe there is a hole for a sensor to be screwed in .. oxygen sensor ? ... Now I haven't yet crawled under my car but from the sketchy part pdf I have It looks like there is also a sensor on the Sportback exhaust, just after the cat'.
Question. If the decat pipe is fitted and the original sensor screwed back in then won't the readings be different and where will this show up ?
A dash warning light and message perhaps ? What will the ECU do and how do I get around this issue... or don't I have to ?

Any comments/advice appreciated.

It will fit without any modification, assuming the part is designed/produced well (not being negative, I just don't have any experience with that particular manufacturer's pipe).

Yes, you will remove the oxygen sensor from the original cat pipe and install it into the hole (bung) in your new straight pipe. This will, inevitably trigger a "service required" light on your center meter display and a corresponding DTC P0420 relating to catalyst efficiency.

This code and light can be avoided by installing a spacing piece between the de-cat pipe and the oxygen sensor, thus moving the sensor further from direct exhaust flow and "tricking" it into believing that there is a catalyst installed and reducing the amount of un-catalyzed exhaust reaching the sensor.

I personally prefer, always recommend, and use (without issue) a spacer with a 90 degree bend, this allows for some manipulation of the sensor's position in the event of different code occurrences. Also, be sure that the spacer that you use is made from quality stainless steel, or there will be much corrosion and difficulty if you ever need to remove or reposition in the future.

Question - can you not turn off the code in the ROM? Is that not what happens in the BoostPill - TBE GST basemaps?

If you do this would you still want to move the O2 sensor back from the exhaust stream?


On another note - Brian, so so worth buying a Tactrix & flashing, even to the stock pill map - makes the car what it should be at a fraction of the cost of a professional tune

^no, the basemap does not turn that off.
You will need to install a spacer (or i found a spacer with a mini catylst portion that fools the computer).

No worries, eh?
