Alright guys sorry just got outta work so I couldn't post but I used krylon black satin(I had a feeling the flat wouldn't work as nice) and I used a krylon rust free primer. I took the chrome ring off and it was a pain. I first took off the plastic tube that leads to the intake box. After that is off I took off the plastic shroud that is on the inside. Once this shroud is off you will see all the silver screws on the inside. This part if fairly easy, just have a stubby phillips. There should be a total of 10 silver screws(sadly I was missing one). Once all these are taken out its time for the bottom. I went under the car and used a 10mm socket to remove 5 bolts under the car. (you will see the shroud underneath) once the bolts are undone there are 4 black clips, 2 on each side near the wheels. Once all the clips and bolts are off I stuck my hand in under the intercooler and undid the screws to the black bottom grate. Once those are undone there are 2 bolts of the outside. You will need a socket extender. When these are out carefully pull out the grate. This gives you access to the bottom to take out the rest of the screws to the chrome ring. once all the screws are out slowly pull off the chrome ring. From here i used a high grit sandpaper to take off the finish. This took me about an hour to do a really nice job. I forgot to get emery cloth to wet sand. Once sanded i just sprayed it and let it cure for a few hours and it was ready. If you guys want pics and a more descriptive how to let me know.

Great choice on the satin. It looks perfect. I like the look. Way too many screws and bolts to get that off though!! WOW.

Looks like you did a great job. Only thing I'd be worried about is chipping from rocks. I know plenty of 08/09 lancers prepping/priming/painting their grills and having it chip later on. Hopefully that won't happen for you.

LOOKS AWESOME!
i need an opinion as well. how do you think it would look if i painted my chrome ring and bottom window trim red? my car is tarmac black, and im going for the whole red/black thing. i think it would look pretty sick with windows, headlights, tails, etc. all blacked out.... what do you think?

its one of those things I'd need to see you know. But I like the idea of it. And if you have the tarmac I bet it would look sick, so I say go for it but I am with you because I was gonna black out the trim on the bottom of the window. keep me posted on what your gonna do man.
