Yes ladies and gents, I'm afraid the thing we feared the most happened to one of us..
Our brother, alex aka henandez706 was driving to work when he noticed that his RA was not switching gears correctly..He would accelerate slowly and it stayed on gear, redlined and would not switch to another gear.. "Whoa whoa, do i have this thing on manual, or sport mode??" he said. "whats going one?". No, he didnt have it on manual or sport mode. So he gave it some gas to see if it would help. Sure enough the turbo boosted..the engine roared to redline, and kept hitting the red line for a few seconds, then BAM!! It switched gears from 1st to 3rd! WHAT?? THEN AGAIN..BOOM..TO 5TH! THATS IT! Straight to the dealer!With his heart pounding with misunderstanding and disappointment he turned right to make it in the dealer parking lot, in 5th gear,going 6mph...
He had made it to the service department and told them the explaination of the events that just happened. They told him that no one in the service department has worked on this tranny before..they have never heard this happen. Now alex does not have a "boost pill" or a flash...not even an exhaust. He has not gone to the races or drives this car like he stole it, but it happened to him. TOTAL TRANSMISSION AND ECU (TCU) REPLACEMENT.
Last i heard of this young man he was driving to work, in a rental, in a.........................HYUNDAI!!!!! NO NOT THE GENESIS...a sonata

BUT, that does suck.

 

So the car was completely stock? Maybe it was just bad luck, it does happen sometimes.

ya still under warranty. no i dont work for mitsu..shoot i just ordered a bunch of stuff for my RA and getting a flash done in 2 wks! i hope it was just bad luck..

when that happened... did he tried to turn it off, and wait like a minute, and then start it back on?

 

man, he installed a lot of mods to his car, and no tunning..... and thats a no no.. the AFR's gonna change a lot...

First RA-SST lost! This is a day in history...a sad day...an infamous day.

 

Most unexplained Mitsu problems fix themselves if you turn the car off, give it a few minutes and restart it.

 

So did he have mods or no mods?

 

Resetting the ECU via battery can solve miracles too...

This is strange...How does it rev to redline when he's not driving it like he stole it?
Maybe its a short in one of the paddles or shifter. Causing it to skip gears...

Thats kind of scary to know that the car will rev to redline when I'm just in D...And it wouldn't downshift?

What does limp mode do??

 

Also maybe the even gears' clutch is broken. Since, only his odd gears worked.

 

When I was at the track the other day, I was trying to hold rpms..but the guy in the other lane took too long to stage up. So I ended up over heating it and my dash told me to slow down. Then it reved all the way to like 7 while in D with no gas for like 1 sec. I then ran that race very slow to be cautious. Parked my car and then I let it cool down.

There were no probs after that. I guess I just got the tranny too hot while trying to launch. the Car redlined and didnt move aka limpmode.
