Alright guys....
So the past 2 days the evo has started to smoke...pretty bad actually. It started at idle and then would go away. Then only happened in between shifts. Now it smokes up to 2000 RPM's.
I'm guessing it could be one of the following:
1) Turbo seals
2) Something wrong with the head / valves etc
3) The ring(s) could be fried
I did a compression test before the turbo install and it was 175 175 175 175.
I haven't done one after the install. I will in the next few days or have my mechanic do one.
FWIW my oil return line had been leaking and I just re-installed a new gasket and RTV'ed the hell out of it.
It's weird...I just took it for for a ride and it didn't smoke at all....I don't get it?
What should I be looking for / checking?
Thanks!

Here's what I think happened.
I re-installed the gasket between the oil return line and the oil pan and had used a bunch of RTV (definitely more than I should have). I used a 1G gasket because the Evo gasket I used was leaking like crazy and I've used the 1G gaskets in the past with no issues.
According to FP's FAQ - 'My tubo is smoking and it's brand new. The shaft has normal play in it so is one of my seals blown?' http://store.forcedperformance.net/m...creen=Info_FAQ
It basically says that if there is the slighest restriction in the return line, it can cause it to back up to the bearing housing, it will leak past the seals and into the exhaust where it burns it.
Which would explain why the longer I drive the worse it gets. If I let the car sit for a while, the return line drains and it will take some time for it to fill back up, which is why it doesn't smoke for a while after starting it.
Soo, tonight, I am going to pull off the gasket NOT RTV it like I did last time, and just RTV the bolts and around the return line flange, check the shaft play and call it a day. Hopefully it fixes it....

Well...Bad news
Apparently my #2 cylinder has had enough!
It had been smoking pretty bad lately. I did a compression test today and here are the results:
Cly #1: 175 | Cly #2: 152 | Cly #3: 175 | Cly #4: 175
I re-did the test a few times on cylinder 2 to see if it changed and it didn't. I added oil to the cylinder and re-did the test and the compression went up. Guess its the piston / ring....time for a built motor...
Need to start making an excel spread sheet to go over my engine options.

well good news is that there are a couple built motors for sale so you dont have to build one from ground up if you dont want to average price 3000k i think its time to join my exculsive club binky fp black 2.4 club

52,200 I believe.
Rock - 2.4 is definitely on the table
It's just kinda weird, because before the turbo upgrade it was 175 across the board. The car lasted ~roughly 3 weeks with the Black on it.
I mean as bummed as I am...I'm happy it didn't actually blow up and put a rod threw anything. It's a really good excuse to build the motor

Well as of right now, my course of action is going to be the following:
1) Drive the car and pull the exhaust manifold off and see if I can tell where the oil is coming from
2) Do a leak down test
Depending on what those say - I am going to build the motor.
Right now I am looking at staying at a 2.0 L. I think I am going to have AMS build it.
I am also considering an AMS head and F1 intake manifold. I am going to install everything myself (with the help of some of friends hopefully
) then do the engine break in and possibly have them tune it. I'm not sure what I want to fully do yet. By the time I save the money for it it won't be for 3 maybe 4 months anyway.
I am going to go through my options to see if I want AMS / MAP / Buschur to build it. OR maybe I will build it - have to learn sometime right?
What do you think?
