So it begins....OBD-II Rant

In my new town, I am not subject to OBD-II testing or emissions, just a visiual check up on hard parts (cat con). Now...next year, that'll change as Im told. Problem is, next year Im planning on going EMS with MAP sensor. The point is, I cannot pass an OBD test without an OBD-II compliant comuputer. The true point is, what does one do? Go with a UTEC? Switch it back to a MAF sensored, stock computer and pray there are no CEL codes thrown? That just seems like a headache I dont have the luxury to tolerate....let me know what you guys think.

Obd Ii

I am in the same boat with you. In southern Ohio a 264/272 UTEC Evo will pass the former Ohio sniff test. I am working through a couple of O2 code issues with this car and believe that this will solve the problem and allow the car to pass. On the other hand, the other Evo that I have, with an AEM EMS will need to pass the OBD II next fall, what to do? I still have the ECU so maybe put that on and see? Don't know really what the answer is, maybe a ZO6?

Guys really....how much of a problem is it to unclip the glovebox and plug in the stock ecu.

plug in your MPD sensor in the intake and unplug the EMS map sensor

unplug the EMS air temp

install your stock intake pipe and MAF and plug it in.

really...that can be done in less than a half hour with a single 10mm socket wrench.

^^ Exactly, why don't you just swap it back and forth?

Yep, that's my plan. I'm going to use a field harness to wire in any optional sensors. I'm also going to bypass the use of any of the factory wire harness for the MAP or IAT sensors. I'll wire those as "standalone". Too bad someone doesn't make a "breakout" adaptor for the MAF plug so you don't have to tap into any factory wiring.

In time to come, I will be offering reflashes for all AEM users who need to get the car running to pass emissions

I can get almost any combinations of mods to pass emissions with the stock ecu and a through the mail flash

You will have to re-wire some sesnsors but it wont be a big deal - sure you wont break any dyno records with the emissions passing version - but it will pass emissions

Cool! I'd even be willing to throw my stock injectors in if necessary.
