Knock volt count

I did two separate logs of just free revving the motor and it showed anywhere from .2 to 1.5 volts of knock especially above 3500 rpms.

Is this normal?

It's normal. It's just engine noise and it will increae w/ engine RPM. Your engine is pretty loud though.

Exactly right, when I start to tune a car that is how I start to set the Knock sensor cal table, I will free rev the car several times after it is completely warmed up and with very modest ign timing. At that point you can very much so get a good idea if the motor is going to make alot of noise or not. If the car is really loud I highly recommend using a set of detonation ear phones ( Automotive Electronic Stethoscope ) so you can hear the engine actually knock before it becomes a issue.

The reason I was asking if it should be "that" high while free revving is because I have had an issue with knock for months now and I can't figure out why.

My car knocks like a sob for some reason. Even on race gas/methanol and leaving the ignition tables alone it still shows knock.

I know I have said this before, but you need to establish your noise floor. Lower your boost to some where in the low teens, add some race gas, and do some logging. Some good det cans would be helpful too. Your engine may just be noisy.

Every engine has a level of noise that is just noise and not knock. My car runs up to 2 volts of noise which isn't knock. Stock EVO's are usually in the 1 volt or less range. Different manifolds, turbos, psitons, etc all can create more noise. Your tuner should of established your noise floor before he started tuning your car. A pair of det cans will also help you in determining if your noise is noise or knock.

Considering I don't have any det cans or whatever they are, could the log be showing a bigger more serious issue?

What else besides noise could be causing over 1.5 volts of knock while free revving? Internal engine damage, valves, etc..?
