definitely a user problem, not the AEM's fault. but i definitely agree with TTP, the MAF based system stock is more reliable and good for up to around 600whp, i(and most other people)don't need any more than that.

from what i hear sean ivey is the man for EMS tuning.
i took my car for trouble shooting and he made slight changes and now i get about 1-2 more mpg, less stuttering with the AC on, smoother drive, same power.

Please explain how AEM knock control is inferior to the factory ECU.

I am admitedly way out of my league here but I believe the factory ECU will pull timing and boost / switch to a less aggressive map when the knock count gets to high.

If the AEM standalone has these features it wouldn't appear they get much use.

I think there has been/ is, a very agressive marketing campain for the AEM ECU by many tuners and shops.

I think you should really consider yourself lucky b/c I can't think of one shop that would cover the cost of a engine rebuild in this situation. Good Luck, Stick with the AEM you will enjoy it beginning from right after start up to when you shut your car off!

the stock ECU does a terrific job with knock control thanks to the Mitsu engineers., the AEM is only as good as the person who set it up.

AEM works very well if it's setup right, The Fcon is also a very nice setup, I love doing them they are great quality.

I realize this topic is on the old side but I just saw it.

First off, the engine blowing up, there is a decent chance it is not the fault of the AEM or the tuner to be honest. I have seen some odd stock piston failures happen. I've seen them crack right down the middle, no reason for the way it failed. You may have just had a piston failure unrelated to the tuning.

As for the AEM being inferior to the factory ECU. That is complete crap. The knock control in the AEM will do anything YOU tell it to, if you don't know what to tell it that doesn't make the AEM inferior it makes the tuner inferior to the Mitsubishi engineers. The speed density............works perfectly, I do not agree it is inferior to a MAF system.
