The stock ecu is garbage over a certain power level maybe about 450 wheel , the AEM or Fcon V pro really outshine it at that point.
Of course the stock ecu is cheap and it's easy because 3/4 of the map is already done for you, the standalones are harder, but in the hands of someone who can tune them it is a world of difference, and much higher level of safety than running on the last column, just my opinion.

TTP that's very interesting, incorrect but interesting. The stock ECU has no idea what to do with half the noises produced after the car is modified. It works in a very small window of noise for a stock car that makes very little noise at 280 flywheel hp, super tight tolerance on the pistons etc.

Not to mention the way better driveability when using a standalone with the bigger cams that are now available, it is NIGHT and DAY the difference.

The evo9 i think especially once cammed and big turbod needs the standalone, I won't get into the details but I am starting to see a common trend with them.

I agree, this is exactly what I have noticed, Master Buschur is correct.

TTP i am also sorry but your wrong. when david buschur and sean ivey are talking about EMS trust me they know every single thing about that unit. ivey is amazing and everyone that is tuned by ivey on ems that i know has never had one issue with the car dsm or evo. ivey is one of the top and so is david. he stands behind EVERYTHING he odes weather its a boost controller adjustment or a tuning a freshly installed aem ems. the tuning he does the super quality parts they make speak for themselves they dont need to prove themseleves to anyone they been there done that.one of your best investments you could do to your evo is bring that damn car to him. go there let him work his magic and trust me and the other 90% of huys on here. one of the best of the best with the AEM. buschur & Dynoflash FTW!!!

If a Tuning god like Sean Ivey tells you to get a Stand alone, I would get one =)

are you just not familiar in ems tuning? we have the same issue in the vag scene. beyond 450whp, the oem ecu is no longer usefull. marginally anyhow. oem ecu's which can be modified really do have their limits. from the sound of it, the op doesn't have an issue with his ems. it's an issue with the tuner. nothing more.

I find it quite odd that people on here swear by using knock control. In my experience its the people who live and die by the knock sensor are the ones that arent getting the most out of their setups.

Some of the most powerful and reliable cars (evos and others) ive seen dont pay attention to knock sensors

I should have noted that its because they are so well tuned. they dont HAVE to have a knock sensor

03blueevolution, that's an interesting observation..............I don't agree with it but it's always interesting to see what other guys have to say. This time it is on the humorous side.

Its not about EMS tuning. It is about a NECESSITY to move from the OEM ECU. We are not far off from seeing 650-700+whp on factory OEM ECU tuning.

It appears you are unfamiliar with what is being done with factory ECU reflashing.

Our 10.9 @ 130mph runs back to back were performed on the OEM ECU. Trap speeds indicate 575whp Dynojet estimate.
