Import Evo to PI

Hey,
I'm looking at...scratch that...I AM retiring in the PI with the wife(filipina). I'm curious about what it cost and is hassles there are for importing a car, such as my Evo(IX MR). I have heard rumors it's like a 300% tax on it or something. Just curious so I can plan ahead. Will be in about 6 more years so things could change from now and then, but just like to plan ahead. Thanks for any info.

I wonder if servicemen get tax exempt when they ship their POV to PI as a retirement location.

Seriously doubt it, as we didn't do anything to serve the Philippine goverment. I've heard of ways to cheat the system to import a car, but I would rather do it legit and not take a chance as getting my car impounded. I was hoping someone had experience of actually importing a car to the PI.

You would be much better off by selling your car here and buy whatever car you want in P.I. Less headache. If you want an evo 9 or 10 even a GTR, they have those there brand new, for about 1.75 to twice as much as they're selling it here, but you wont have to worry about getting thru customs and other bureaucratic redtapes. I would strongly recommend against it if you've never done it before.

PM me if you need more info.

I agree with EVOLVE. Although what he suggested would cost more money, it would definitely be less of a hassle.

Sell USDM Evo... buy Evo 5 GSR! that would solve my problems.

If you know any senators or government officials, you would not have any problems importing that evo 9 over. hehe..

if you are a flip and balikbayan, you can actually bring a car that you used here in the US tax free. just check the link above. It has to be used, at least for 6 months and you decide to bring it to the PI, you don't pay taxes unless you get V6 or 3L engine or more. the evo with 2.0L therefore qualifies.

I also heard if you "dontate" it to a church it is tax free, then you can buy it from the church, but not sure. To bad my wife isn't balikbayan I would put it in her name.

The best and most practical way? Sell your IX MR and just buy an Evo here. You can choose from Evos 4 to 10. Or maybe try going for a Skyline GTR except just make sure the conversion is reliable.

Here are the estimated prices of 2nd hand Evos here:
Evo IX RS (Euro-spec with SAYC) = 1.8m - 1.5m
Evo VIII (US-spec) = 1.6m - 1.3m
Evo VII RS2 = 1.3m - 1m
Evo VI TME RS = 1m to 900k
Evo VI RS = 950k to 850k
Evo V RS = 900k to 750k

Hardest to find are Evo 5s since these are like collector items. Unahan dyan. The easiest to find are the CT9As, lalo na Evo 7s.

Those prices I mentioned above are the best reasonable ones for used Evos. Of course, check also the condition of the car.

Awsome info thanks. Only issues for me is, I will have an Evo IX that is payed off. With buying one there I will have a ~$36,000 car(evoIX RS) I'm paying on again. Granted by that time they will be cheaper. But I'm looking to import my car, not get into debt when i retire.
