I think they both are same weight (1470kg) and power (195kW).

Australian Evolution VIII differences
- 355Nm
- ACD
- AYC
- Front LSD (according to Euro Evo specs. I don't think Australian STI has this?)
- $65,000 aprox

Australian STI differences
- 343Nm
- 6 speed transmission
- In dash 6CD stacker & Cassette
- Semi auto climate control
- $57,000 aprox

Japanese Evolution VIII differences
- 206kW (Probably 220kW)
- 394Nm
- 6 speed transmission
- Semi auto climate control
- Better audio system

Aston is on the money.

The big other differences are that the EVO officially holds boost from 2500 to 6500rpm
STI from 3500 to 6500rpm

The STI only has an LSD, no active or DCCD systems.

The gearbox (the 5 speed) is stronger in the EVO, the engine can be tuned higher more safely with less internal mods...

Aston, With your question on the power output requirements;
All cars since (I think 2001/2002) had to be less than 206kw, and more specifically 195kw. Therefore the STI is also 195kw. It is all to do with emission standards and stuff like that. I don't agree with that considering the Holdens and Fords are allowed 300kw. Put simply it sucks!

The only bit of conjecture for me is that i thought as the cars were on a low import volume (<100) they had different rules and stuff like that... Like the TME cars being officially 206kw but we all know they were closer to 230kw.

Keep me informed on the goings on guys as I am still out of the country.

Cheers

Government regulations, I should have known. If there is a chance to take the fun out of something, the Goverment will see to it, , public fun restrictors, something, something...
I am not so good at ranting .

So will this happen with all cars or just ones that don't meet emission standards?

I just checked the 350Z in relation to the detuning and discovered it keeps it's 206kW and 363Nm so it has more power and torque than the Australian Evolution VIII!! I always put the 350Z a class below the Lancer Evolutions and Impreza STIs but maybe not anymore .

Anyway I will still be glad when the VIII is finally released but only half as happy as I would have been if we had got the Japanese spec.

Currently in UK and Italy at the moment. Been here for over a week and have not seen a single EVO. Quite a few STIs and WRXs but still not as many as Aus - espeically Perth.

I get home next week and pray that I will have a car to drive to work the week following...

I don't even come close to understanding why only 30cars are being released. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Cheers guys, and keep the discussion active.

Here is something that I find rather dissapointing...

Dad hasn't heard from the dealer (where he has a deposit on an Evolution VIII) for while so today he rang them and they told him that the guy he was dealing with, apparently the only Ralliart salesman at this dealership, has transfered to a Nissan dealership and the person dad spoke to didn't know anything about the Evolution VIII! Anyway he was put onto someone else who might know about the Evolution VIII and dad's order but he didn't answer his phone so dad left a message. We will see what happens but this isn't looking good. Dad put down the deposit midway through November last year so I think he would have liked to be getting a little more info from the dealership and at least be told that the only Ralliart salesman, the guy he was dealing with, was leaving.

I don't wish to sound the smart ****, but your dad should probably have called them more often. If I didn't call my dealer once a week, I wouldn't have had a car confirmed.

Guess what? I didn't put any deposit down either.

He used to call them 3 or 4 times a month but they were starting to get a little anoyed and told him they would ring when they got info. Also this isn't just about info on the car but the salesman took dad's deposit and didn't bother to tell him that he was leaving and dad would have to deal with someone else now. I am sure the interest they have made on the deposit over 6 months would cover a few phone calls.

same here, went to the dealership last Saturday, the sales rep knew nothing about the car and asked me to called him back sometime this week, I think Mit shouldn't give these sale people commission, as they never try hard enough to sell us a car.
