I don't wish to sound the smart ****, but your dad should probably have called them more often. If I didn't call my dealer once a week, I wouldn't have had a car confirmed.

Guess what? I didn't put any deposit down either
I don't think that calling the dealer and any other avenue for info on a regualr basis is a bad idea. We have all (well most...) put money down on a car which we have never driven or didn't know the specs of. I think they should offer us some sort of support, failing that we have the rights to keep the questioning going until they can find the answers. I don't think that is too much to ask.

On the subject of sale people moving, I had the same experince but I took a different tact. My person disapeared the next time I called after signing up. He was moved to another area. So I thought rather than chasing him up, go up the order to the manager of the new car dept. My old sales person is still invloved but the manager now deals with my order. This way I feel even by losing the sales person I still get the service.

Now to think of it, I would have done that even if my sales person was still available.

Astondg, maybe this is what your dad should have done. Get him to keep his nose up and keep on the dealers until they can get him some answers.

Just found this interesting:

"They're Russian To Steal Evo VIIIs

There's no doubting the popularity of Mitsubishi's awesome Evo VIII in the UK, but in some countries demand is worryingly high. Take Russia for example.

There's no car that the Russians love more than the Evo, but owners have to be extremely careful where they leave their four-wheel-drive rally-bred super-saloons.

We have learned that the number of Evo thefts is two times greater than the number of cars that have actually been sold throughout the country - meaning each model has been stolen at least twice! "

I think I first saw it in EVO magazine but I still find it funny every time I see it . Probably not so funny for the Russians though.

Thanks for the ideas THX1138, I'll let my father know.

A little off topic but I saw a TME for sale today for very cheap and that got me thinking, but it turned out to be an import, which is fine but I think a proper Australian delivered car would be a little nicer. And I couldn't afford it yet anyway, I think dad's car (when he gets the Evolution VIII) will be the closest I will get to owning a Lancer Evolution until I finish university.

Good afternoon

I understand the NSW (Australian?) Evolution dealers are going to Eastern Creek on Monday in Sydney for the day to go through the cars, the pre delivery, the driving etc and there will be opportunity for them to ask questions about colours, delivery batches and timings, power up kits, price etc.

Get onto them before and after this day and keep everyone informed. The info I have is completely consistent with what I have read on this site.

The power I understand is officially quoted at 195kw but in reality is around the 215kw mark. I suspect they had to quote less than 206kw as per the last 6.5 and as per current FQ280s in UK but didn't want to go under the 195kw that STis quote.

I don't think they will be as slow as 6.1 for the 0-100k but won't be much quicker stock. Easily fixed though with the kit - should be above a real 230kw with that on and closer to the low fives.

Regards

A bit more explanation of what I was saying for the power for the Aussie/Euro Evo VIII....

With having to detune the motors for Euro spec, Mitsu need to quote less than 206kw to make the power of the detuned car look consistent with the standard car to keep Jap regulators happy. We know in reality the 206kw in the standard car is 230kw or so. Is the Euro really only 195kw - not a chance, way too much power loss for a chip change and extra cat.

I think the power loss brings the motor down to around the 215kw mark - just my guess, based on the performance of the car, which is OK but not fantastic. But as Mitsu need to quote less than 206kw to keep things looking OK with the Jap regulators, do they take off 15kw and say 191kw (ie 206-15), and end up with a number that is less than STIs? Not a chance. Hence the 195kw is a number for appearance reasons only. It balances off its competitive position with STIs but still gives an appropriate number for the detuned car relative to the "206kw" for the standard car.

Again, I can't see its anywhere down near the 195 being quoted. Its not that slow. I see the only explanation is that power is around the mark I am saying.

Regards

Welcome to the board, wombata

I have further details. My dealer received his information on what vehicles he will be getting in the first batch today. I can happily confirm I am getting my requested yellow with leather!

They expect their cars Monday or Tuesday, and I can apparently expect delivery on Friday next week!!

btw, sold the Beemer today. Always sad to see a real quality car having to be sacrificed, but sometimes you gotta take one for the team

Good news!

My father did get a reply from the dealer but all they could tell him was they had no information and they would ring him next week if they got any.

I believe they got 7, but I don't know if they got the whole 7 in the first batch. Doubtful.

From what I know, they have assigned the cars based on what the dealer has supplied about your request. IE if you asked for black with leather, it will go in the 'black with leather' folder and by the time they get to your order if there's a black with leather left you will get it. Like I said before, my dealer told me 95% of people will get what they want.

First orders, first served, i'd guesstimate. But if you have got in good with the New Car Sales Manager (like me ) i'm certain a few have jumped the queue.

I'd also think that the biggest dealers would get the pick of the cars, Mitsubishi would want to keep their best salespeople happy.

Having said all that, there are still details I don't know - I know nothing about how the satellite tracker works and I don't think anyone really does yet, my dealer said he will know more, just like everyone else, after the media launch Monday.

I Got Ripped Hard !!!!!!!

Southern Mitsubishi '''F!#@$@#$'''' me

I was 6th or 5th in line for a EVO8 as I have previously said ..... talking to THX1138.

I thought everything was going great, but my EVO8 Dreams are all over.

Southern Mitsu - Melbourne gives me a call, and tells me that they havn't been granted distribution rights in Victoria, instead it went to Melbourne City and Chadstone. So all the guys that signed up at Southern have been ROLLED !!!

I was happy but not so happy.

happy - why
When you consider that we are still waiting for the first generation of the EVO8 in Oz, yet in Japan they have already released the third gen (EVO8 MR - anyone correct me if I'm wrong) why do we always get the F'n scraps. I want the latest and Greatest.

Not Happy - why
Oh, yeah the other two distributors in Melbourne have filled there orders ...!!!

So - this is how easily I missed out on my EVO8 - hope it doesn't or hasn't happened to anyone else ......

But all hopes are not Lost - This pissed me off so much that I looked at other Avenues. So this is what I discovered.

There are two workshops here in Melbourne that are currently applying for there EVO8 compliance licence. So my local importer tells me. Once they do have compliance - we did the number crunching - and a EVO8-MR would come in @ 55K ready to drive, and that was being very reasonable with the prices ... does anyone have any thoughts on importing ????

Sorry to hear about your predicament RIP.

I can't see Evo8 MR's coming in at 55K. But you can get a minty Evo7 GSR in Bateman's Bay at the moment for about 57K

I've seen a few Evo7's around the 50K mark on Trading Post, and they will drop like a stone in the next few weeks.
