Possible to import evo8 to Canada?
Wondering if it's possible to import an Evo8 to Canada from the US? I checked the www.riv.ca website and it's not on the list of inadmissable vehicles. Would that mean it's ok to register here? Or maybe the list hasn't been updated yet... I thought the main reason for the car not being available here was the fact it didn't meet our safety standards.
EVO8
Rumor has it that Ultimate in Scarborough has one. And the manager at Cooksville Mitsubishi told me theres another around somewhere.
To make my answer short, I'd say "no".
The EVO8 doesn't meet our safety standards because of the 3-mph bumper rule. Essentially all thats keeping them from bringing the car up here is that. I'm not sure if theres anything else, but the bumper would be my bet.
The owner at Cooksville wanted to bring an EVO8 in for display/himself and Mitsubishi USA said it'd cost $52,000 his cost. Apparently they aren't into giving discounts to Canadian Dealerships. My guess for yourself IF they will even sell you one is expect to pay $60,000.
My friends down in Cali and AZ said that dealers are making huge profits because they're aren't enough to keep up with demand.
My bet for a EVO8 in Canada will be when the redesign comes (if you've seen the 04 Lancer you'll understand what I mean). Also they're going to fix the engine to be the same as the WRX STI (300hp). Don't expect and EVO here until 2005 earliest, and thats if they fix the front bumper.
Seriously if you have that kind of cash and want a fast rally style car, just go buy the new WRX STI. I hate to say it, but its your only choice until Mitsubishi decides otherwise.

You cannot really register or import it, though you can still drive it here. Though there will be some work involved, and family/good friends, or a dual citizenship for the US.
My friends, friend's bro got some car that wasnt legal 2 be registed in the states here by getting his aunt to register and puchase the car in the US, under her name. (He gave the money)
Then he went to pick it up, and drive it back into Canada, and he has a visitor licence, where you get 6 months before you need to bring it back into the US.
He lives bout 20 mintues from the border so all he needs to do is every 6 months drive over to buffalo, and drive back and the visitors licence is renewed for another 6 months lol.
Thats what im planning to do, tho I need the cash thats all :P
