Specifics: Registering an EVO into Canada

I was wondering if ANYONE had anything to share about the possibility of bringing a US EVO, and registering it with your provincial government... (IE to drive it street legal with Canadian Plates & Have Canadian insurance) Here's what we know so far:

1) According to the ministry of transportation, 2003 and 2004 EVO's are INADMISSIBLE for importation.. Specifically identifying the EVO as a car that is inadmissible was a recent change to the ministry's website/PDF... before they did not specify this...

2) It is possibile to NOT register the Car with the ministry of transportation, and drive around with US plates, but this is illegal for >3 months if you actually live in Canada

3) There are reports of changing the bumper/front mount intercooler to meet CAN specifications , and some have been successfu in importing the EVO. However, those that have been successful it seems were before the ministry specifically spelled out that the EVO is inadmissible.... IE. Before they did this it seems that people got their evos through and did all the bumper changing/other mods to make the car steet legal

SO, MY QUESTION to ALL OF YOU IS THIS: CAN WE IMPORT AN EVO INTO CANADA ?? If so please provide objective evidence ....

Thank you

Mitsubishi Rep told me there is a very good chance of them being available through the dealership next year.

I know this is a new thread, but I think this is a good idea, lets really keep this organized and post solid facts here, or stories of trying too.

Yea, there other threads, but so unorganized, OT Posts, and links to other posts, and some have many pages, the information is basically all over the place! :s

exactly...cuz there is so much info already out there and cuz this topic has been bled to death...it's all the extra posts of people begin too lazy to look through other posts that makes sooooo many useless threads or useful threads so big

and every "mitsu rep" you talk to has a different story. mitsu doesn't even know.

This tread was designed to post FACTS.. The summary of 1), 2), & 3) Reiterates and summarizes the previous linked threads. We have all read the previous posts

However, there is NO evidence that importation has actually happened, and there are no speicifics in how one can do so. Thus, my is for hope is that people post replies that allow us to MOVE FORWARD and get info on how to get the EVO into CANADA...... LEGALLY..

Thanks

At the moment, I honestly don't see any way to bring an Evo over into Canada for street use, legally. There was a period of time there that had a window of opportunity, before the registrar caught on that the Evo was different from a regular Lancer. There are a few lucky ones that pull it off during that time, however those methods now are irrelevant.

*Puts my hand up

I have 24,000 aside for my R.A by summer, Then add maybe a 2-5k value (If that?) With my 03 OZ, Plus my bank account of 8k or so, I'd prob. be able to put a really nice down payment, and jus keep workin away for a while

That will all be of course if I don't buy a R.A, but that will only happen if any strong info of Canadain/Evo IX Release is released before Mid July.. Hehe.
