Evolutions "Official" Status for Canada
#17
Just came across this article on the Evo MR and Canadian spec:
http://www.auto123.com/en/info/news/...py?artid=18158
Sounds that if the Evo comes to canada it may have one ugly nose.

well kids, you can bring an evo into canada. I'ts red tapish but 2 exist in London Ont. Insured by MIC
I got quoted for the car and am off to the U.S. this weekend to prchase.
They remove the FMIC ala 2 gen talons eclipses etc. and run a support bar across the bumper. That's it. Done.
Then you re-install the Fmic up here and happy motoring. One thing is right though. Buy it outright, don't deal with mitsuOA they suck. Go bank, buy, emmisions, safety, certificates and done.
It's only a car and yes you can import one.
They have them for sale in woodbridge ( it was in the autotrader lol) albeit 55 grand. ewwww.
happy sideways steering.

well, it's just a car and I've got one coming. The only problem is the FMIC and the retarded 10km/h bumper crash standard. It's ****ed and one person here is right Canada in all its just this side of socialism is run by big business and the insurance companies here rule.
My wife works for one.
So, you play the game, convert the car and get the safety certificate (which is pretty easy even if you have the FMIC) emissions and done. There are a lot of cars here with aftermarket turbo kits with fmic's and the evo is no different.
Hell, you could even import a right hand drive evo with the active diffs and yaw control.
I'll keep ya posted though.

So I got back sunday from my test drive in the Mighty U.S. They told me it was a black evo but was really silver, ok.
The drive is wicked fun, it's fast, very lound inside and very cheap feeling inside. The STI feels a lot nicer.
BUT, you don't really steeer this thing you jerk the wheel and the response is amazing it's like driving a pinball, it's a lot of fun but launching it is very tricky. Feathering is the key with high rpm like 4500 for a decent launch.
The clutch burns and stinks and is prolly the first thing to go on these cars/the first thing replaced. I loved the styling of this car and the back seat is actually functional although no split seat
and the stereo is lacking but who keeps that stock??
I'm very happy wit the car and can't wait for mine!!
I callem my insurace company this morning and everything is fine, I just renewed for my RSX and have the same quote for the EVO. It's coming up late feb. with no FMIC, like a Talon tsi, but it's cool, cuz the intercooler will be here mid january from the dealer. Maybe I'll use it as decoration for the house lol.

Thanks for keeping us posted. If it turns out not being too much of a hassle importing the Evo I just may do the same myself. Looking forward to your further updates.

One Still I have difficulty in understanding is how one can import this car if it specifically states that in the list of vehicles admissible to the US that the Mistubishi EVO 2003 and 2004 is INADMISSIBLE ?

Thanks for the updates
