I heard it's coming...

Two weeks ago, I went to the dealer to test drive the Ralliart. I asked about the EVO and the salesman told me it should be here late this year... Did the guy imagine all this to make me feel better or is it that Mitsu really has plans for the EVO up here?!?

I'll try and get some more info on the subject when I go back to place the order for the car... but it seems like either the dealer here expects the EVO later this year, or my Mitsu rep is keen on wishfull thinking. Let's hope he was right...

earliest it'll be here is late fall/early winter, most projections are shooting for next spring/summer.

Well, at least that's better than 2006...

Do you have specifics on the mods they plan to make to it versus the US or JDM versions? Let's hope they give us the MR before the yankees! That would be soooo damn funny!!!

Maybe they'll mount the IC unit somewhere else and it won't show a the front of the car... that would be a crying shame. But then, I guess most guys would tweak it back into place afterwards. I just can't imagine an EVO without da big intercooler upfront... a tradition I think.

The Canada release version will be essentially the same as the US release. The only possible changes would be to trim levels, or some minor interior/exterior accoutrements (I think I spelled that right). Basically, it's cheaper to have a "North American" EVO rather than the Candian EVO and the US EVO separately. As far as the MR coming here first...no guarantees it'll make it here at all, North America, or Canada.

Hey where are you getting your info from? If there is a EVO for Canada is it going to be an all new body design so we don't have that stupid bumper problem?

Since the VIII is just out in the US, I don't think they'd go with an all new EVO just for us... so don't expect a full body re-design. Considering the 8 mph bumper rule, you might expect a new bumper... probably one that looks very much like the US bumper but reinforced somehow.

As i said earlier, I hope it doesn't mean the end of the Front Mounted InterCooler... that's kind of the soul of the EVO.

The current Evo Lancer body style has been around for a while and is new only for NA. They have only tweeked it a bit currently. I figure if we get any EVO it will be a whole new body design that will be sold world wide.

If the EVO is coming here then more then likely it WILL be the EVO IX which essentially will look like the Ralliart w/ a slightly different bumper, the vented hood and the EVO wing. I don't know how much reinforcement they can do to the existing Evo in the bumper to increase the standard 5MPH crash test to Canada's somewhat unreasonable 8mph.

Exact response from MMSCAN email:

"Currently there are no plans for an Evolution IX as the Evolution VIII is just two years old. IF there was an Evo IX it would probably be sometime in 2007. Generally 5 years per body style/model.

Currently there are no plans to modify the Evolution VIII bumper to meet Canadian standards. A fiscal evaluation was done by MMSCAN in regards to the necessary modifications needed to meet Canadian requirements. This evaluation was done inline with the projected sales volume of the Evolution VIII across Canada over a 3 year span and MMSCAN decided that there simply wasn't the volume needed to warrant manufacturing a new bumper to meet Canadian standards.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news"

Unhappy

MMC: a small car manufacturer (in the global market) temporarily owned in part by Daimler-Chrysler, a corporatiojn trying desperately to sell it's shares in the japanese company.

Mitsubishi Motors is loosing money by the millions trying to gain the market shares it needs to be a real international player in the car manufacturing business.

Do not confuse MMC for it's big brother... at the moment, they are completely dependant on their parent company to keep them afloat. I sure hope the new CEO (yet to be elected as of last week) gets them out of trouble and into a profitable future (where Evos are available up here!).

If this doesn't happen, it would be a shame for two reasons:

First, Japanese CEOs tend to commit suicide when they fail at the task they vowed to acomplish...

Second, we might not like how life turns out for us Mitsu owners.
