B.C. evo roll call
Every morning on my way out to BCIT, I see a RR X parked outside by dennys on marine just before cambie. He has what looks like a full varis body kit and a voltex wing with quad tip. Could be him
hmmm. Ok I'll look into getting that fuel pump relay changed. Is it easy to swap out on your own?
ah... I was hoping that there were some steelies that would fit... bah... well.. that is unless I buy some spacers for temporary use with the steelies.
The facebook invites kind of died cause some people were not getting invited and some were. However, the clublancer forum is back up and Louis always posts up the monthly meets there now.

Oh I must be behind lol
Last time I checked, I thought it was gone for good.
Yeah I know who you're talking about.
It was about a month and a half ago that we both pulled up beside each other on Kingsway by Metrotown. I gave him a wave and thumbs up for his car. He had his sunglasses on and just looked at me with no facial expression....I guess he doesnt want to be evo buddy......lol

Went for Connor's meet support him conquering with cancer.
Connor, I represent ASR all staffs in Canada and China to say that we hope you can be strong, and conquer the disease. Hope to see you in person.

I've seen some nice evos on the road and you'd figure people would want to chat some or even flash their lights. Nada...everyone just keeps to themselves...kind of strange. Anyway...on to more constructive things.
So I've been running chevron 94 octane on my car since I got it and I've noticed despite my tuning adjustments (ecuflash on tephra v7) I couldnt get rid of knock whether I lowered boost or reduced timing. Unfortunetly I'm unable to adjust my AFRs because I'm a cheap *** and haven't found a shop that will install my uego for a reasonable price. I wouldn't doubt the car is running on rich side given the tune it came on but retarding ignition (to a point) should reduce knock to an acceptable threshold of 1-3 counts.
So I did some searching on the forum and found out that Mspeed (right off E Hastings on Commercial) sells VP race gas so I figured why not.

Despite being a bike shop the guys there are really laid back. I guess business must suffer given riding season lasts, what 3 maybe 4 months tops? I ended up going with 19L of VP 109 which is unleaded so the stock narrowband O2 sensor wouldn't get damaged. I know the drum in the pic says u4.4 which is leaded fuel but it I was reassured that I was getting VP Motorsport 109. Did I get played? Maybe...the only thing I can say is the U4.4 is supposed to be green while the M109 is clear. I put in the gas myself and it was clear. The car had a 1/2 tank of Chevron 94 and the 19L took my up another 1/4 tank.
I could immediately tell this stuff was awesome on the drive home. I have my tephra v7 patch set to slow flash the CEL for knock above 3 counts and to flash quickly above 5 counts. Prior to the gas I consistently saw the CEL flash toward the end of 3rd gear pulls between 6 and 7k. Moreover, I got much higher knock arbitrarily whenever I came off the throttle after a WOT pull....though I attribute this more to do with AFRs than timing.
First thing I noticed on the drive home was my CEL didn't flash once
Whether I was cruising, 3/4 throttle or full X to board...no knock. The car pulled smoother to redline the few times I was able to get on it.
I'm not one to throw around claims without the data to support it, so today I was able to get a proper log in. Mod list:
HKS 272/272 mivec cams
Perrin Intake
Perrin 3-port BCS
720cc injectors
Walbro 255 lph
BBK full (ported)
(Completely stock exhaust...even the cat)
Here's the last virtual dyno of the car before the race gas...self tuned @25 tapering to 24 on straight Chevron 94.

Retaining the very same tune I had on the car the log showed 0 counts of knock across the board.

I'm using ecu based boost control and the 3bar map sensor showed an increase of 1psi across the board.

Normally for every 3 counts of knock the ecu pulls 1* of timing. I'd already been pulling timing so my high octane timing map is pretty conservative maxing out at 9* peak by 7k where I usually shift. For the first time the car ran the timing I wanted (pink line): ramping smoothly upward...you can see it increasing smoothly after the turbo is fully spooled at 4k. Yes 4k for full spool is on the higher end of things...the stock exhaust is killing me right now.

I use virtual dyno to compare pulls and see how the car responded to the tuning adjustments. I'm not interested in the numbers as the real whp figure but rather as a reference to see how the car responds to the gas WITHOUT any timing or boost adjustments to the rom. The weight difference is because I had a passenger. The log also started a bit later than usual...I usually log by myself but my passenger was in charge of logging and not the best at his job:

This stuff isn't cheap at $140+tax but I'd definitely use it again for a track day at mission or the like. I highly recommend it to any evo owners out there that can afford it.
