does installing a CAI consume more gas?

I got pretty much the same mileage before and after I put in my AEM CAI..
and now the car sounds badass and pulls harder at 3000+RPM

the way i think of it is.. after i got my CAI, i liked the sound of it so much, i would punch the gas all the time just to hear the cool sound.. therefore wasting more gas

you know a really good way to get good performance for low $$ is take off your stock intake from the throtal body and put a sock over it to keep the dust and stuff out...
