What is the point of the boost pill?
So I just got my brand new Cobb ap and while I do notice it a bit it is not quite providing what I thought it would. I can def feel the power in the lower rpms however up top it is not nearly as noticible. I am completely stock right now and I am running the stock maps that are provided with the unit. On my first few runs with it I noticed my boost spike past where it should (26psi) but holding lower at redline (15 ish) than what the map calls for.
With that being said I was wondering if a boost pill is something I should be looking into even tho I don't completely understand what it does. My thought is that is smoothes out the boost spikes and dips but an explanation would be nice.
Oh and Btw I have a 2010 MR if that helps.
Any and all help is appreciated......HOLLA!!!

I think the pill is supposed to regulate the pressure in order to be able to open the wastegate more effectively (I'm probably wrong there). Also, (again I'm probably wrong), the COBB maps are load-based and I don't really know if there's a "target boost" that it tries to achieve.
the boost pill reduces the pressure coming thru the line from the intake so that the wastegate can't be held closed in higher boost applications... kinda like a regulator to keep us from running our turbo's out of the their efficiency range. if you remove the pill you'll be able to run higher boost but the turbo isn't very capable form the jump so it will still taper drastically...
Why are you running the stock maps? On an otherwise stock car, you should be running the Stage 1 maps. Boost will always taper with the stock turbo; as you want it to on pump gas.
I am running the stage 1 maps for a completely stock car. Sorry. I guess I worded it incorrectly by saying "stock maps" which would be like not running the AP at all.
I still dont understand the boost pill however so a more thorough explanation would be much appreciated!

Ok so i just uploaded the Stage1 93 LWG map. We will see if the car spikes a little lower which would make me feel much more comfortable. I thin I will do some logging to see what happens. What should I be looking for as important information?
Ok so here is my question about this Boost Pill deal.
A guy with a 2011 GSR , and mods of only COBB Tuning AccessPORT, K&N Air Filter, Boost Pill- 27psi- 92 Octane runs 328 hp 321 ft/lb
A guy with 2011 GSR, and mods of COBB Tuning AccessPORT, Catted Turboback Exhaust, COBB Tuning Hardpipe Kit, AEM Intake- 27psi- 92 Octane runs 307 hp 308 ft/lb
At the same tuner, and one shows a boost pill and one without but the boost pill throws down 21hp ,and 13ft/lb more??
Wouldn't the Boost Pill been better to have in both cars and the guy with out it would have had higher numbers than the guy with just the filter?????

With more air, u need a better timing and fuel consummation. U can't just take out the pill and expect more power coz there's more mass of air in there.
The 2011 evo with boost pill still intact is making more power coz its a it's "maximum optimal level". That's means even if u add more or less air, it wouldn't matter at all. 2011 evo without boost pill actually shows that it's hurting the power levels, since it adding more air which takes the car out of the maximum optimal level threshold.
Putting it in an analogy, u have a glass and alcoholic drink (whatever u prefer). U fill it halfway, there's wasted space in the glass. U overfill the glass, there's wasted alcohol. U fill it just right and there's no wasted space and no wasted alcohol. That would be maximum optimal level. Same goes with the evo that doesn't have the boost pill, which is compared to the analogy, wasted alcohol.
To get the benefits of taking out the boost pill, u need to get the right mixture of timing, fuel, and boost. U really just can't take out the pill and think ur gonna be making more power.
I learned this coz I'm tuning my car myself. I thought if I just leaned out the afr, I would be making more power. In a perfect world, it would, but this isn't the perfect world. I had to dial in my boost where I want it to be, then dial in the fuel and set the afr where I want to be, and now I'm figuring out the optimal level of timing: mivec intake and exhaust timing and ignition timing.
