that was the reason by the DBZ president who initiated the buying of mitsubishi. to corner the small car market worldwide. remember mitsubishi developed the DI before it was even used before and it won an award for that. Mitsubishi makes rebadged Peugeot, citroens and now Renault/nissan.

To this date Mitsubishi still holds "GDI" nametag(all capitals), whilst Hyundais bought GDI license very early in its development.
Its other way around. Peugeot/Citroen's make rebadged Mitsubishis.

Why doesn't Mitsubishi and Subaru just do a joint venture like the BRZ/FRS and be done with it, they're practically making the same car at this point?
