I love the doors and the wing. The doors would not make it to production, i'll bet, but the wing could.

That's funny - the article says everything about small car expertise and Daimler not getting the trucks division. A decade on they'd sold the MMA car division and Chrysler and bought Mitsubishi FUSO outright. The investors had it right all the time, no surprise there.

Exactly my thoughts

Agreed.

We can just go with Mitsubishi's powerplant for this joint venture.

Yeah but the Fuso division was already spun off - a nice tidy package with its own factories and bank accounts. I don't see how it could be leverage in any deal involving MMC other then some stock maybe. Either way, I think the Germans did want Mitsubishi engine tech and access to its engineers. They are using their motor in the Smart Car after all. Daimler knows that can't build an engine as good as Mitsu can for as cheap as Mitsu can. I even heard a crazy rumor Mitsu was going to enter Formula 1 as an engine supplier years ago. They have a lot of tricks and expertise up their sleeves that is not currently being utilized to its fullest. I would love to see what they could come up with if they were to market a $70-120K car even though it would be a sales disaster.

Maybe the Evo will take a year or 2 off, while they get their house in order. They are going to make a new Lancer, so that's more then half the engineering right there. I don't think it will take too much for them to produce another.

Has anyone else who has recently or previously purchased an evo received survey requests by Auto Pacific Vehicle Voice?

They claim they were contracted by Mitsubishi to survey current owners. This is a quote from the bottom of the email:

..................................."Your responses carry enormous weight when MITSUBISHI plans the next version of the LANCER EVO. Ratings from owners like you could also help the MITSUBISHI LANCER EVO win AutoPacific's prestigious 2014 Vehicle Satisfaction Award.

Thank you for your help,

George C. Peterson
President
AutoPacific, Inc."

this is their Twitter https://twitter.com/AutoPacific

I dont know how accurate it would be to just survey 30 year old guys like me on a car like this. But if its only up to people like me you'll get a next evo that's pretty much an mr with all options, thats only because its what i'd like to have. HOWEVER what this car is/was/and-always-should-be is what the evo 9 was with as much design liberty taken on the drivetrain. Or at the very least just a pure sports car as it luckily still is, I understand that surveys like these are necesary but if Mitsubishi needs someone to tell them what the next evo should be, let be all of us (evo owners community) through the twitter account of Auto Pacific.

You want Mitsubishi to hear you, flood that twitter account with mentions regarding your Evo XI needs.

Or they could pay attention to what everyone is saying here and all over the web whenever any car blog/magazine posts some new rumor about the next Evo?

I mean, if I was a car manufacturer, I would be online in all blogs and mags and forums and social media listening to what people is saying about my cars... that's just me tho...

They are. Remember when they backed off of the rumor they were cancelling it altogether and came out and made a statement to the contrary?

I think as they get closer to developing it they want to hear more specific info from actual owners and not just the peanut gallery. Those of us who put our money where our mouths are.

Just by the fact they have RX-9 listed as an All New car for 2014 tells me they have no idea what they're talking about. I'm also a rotary fan as a former RX-8 owner, and have been following their issues with the 16X meeting emissions standards. It would shock the world if Mazda had a finished product ready to go at year's end. So yeah. I call BS.

Well, the CEO said they are for sure staying in Illinois, they made a nice profit a year before they thought they would, they are selling so many cars (that are made in Illinois) overseas that they can't keep up, and they received a huge tax circumvention from Illinois to stay in the US.

I would caution people to stop listening to the doomsayers from the 'Jalopnik-level' of internet user. They are not exactly 'in the know'.
