"Evo XI" rumors, speculations, and media reports.
You know they must do something with EVO brand, IX and X were/are selling poorly and they make little profit from them. They're awesome cars but for limited number of people.
I don't doubt that EVO XI will be amazing sport car but it will be totally different animal. I can bet that
- it will come only in automatic with improved SST , it is a trend in sportcars to make them automatic - G-TR for example
- hybrid, SST, better interiors and more valuable components will make it much more expensive, hybrid alone will make this car 10-15$ more, and with 45-50k$ tag price it would be great value for money for modifications.
- write all you want, hybrid engines are not easy to mode, automatic cars are not so easy to mode.It is more expensive to mod them and more difficult. Of course HKS, AMS etc. will make modifications but it EVO no longer will be easy and quite cheap to mode.
I own SST EVO and I am very pleased with it won't be as fast as GSR but I don't want 800whp, I ride on track maybe 1-2 a year and still I'm rebuilding it into 450whp beast which can run circles about almost every car on the road. I had EVO IX but I sold because I don't have time for new cars, and EVO X MR is perfect as everyday car as well.
All those things considered I believe that this car will flop, it will be to expensive to mod and buy and on the other hand for that amount of money you can get used M3 and wait for new Lexus IS-F if you want four door. It will be too expensive for people who are only interested in mods, performance etc and too cheap for people who want prestige car with immense power (like M3, RS4, ISF).
What I think Mitsu should do is to release budget Lancer Ralliant or whatever which would be stripped down EVO with 4WD,2.0 petrol, engine without bull**** electronics and make EVO a supercar ( like Nissan made with GT-R) but all those automatic gearbox, premium equipment in 3 door supercar and everyone would be happy. They won't have both with hybrid, expensive sportcar with is neither great to mod nor as good as GT-R. But on the other hand you can blame them, EVOs are not selling well but it won't change because is not a car for everyone.
And I wonder how will Subaru respond if they keep on putting out Imprezas ( that sedan version is an awesome car) I can live with EVO going that stupid way.

The EVO used to be an affordable sports car, and with all the potential mods(hybrid, diesel..etc), it will be interesting to see the pricing point.
With the pricing of current EVOs STARTING at 35 and going up to 45 with all options, it's not out of the realm of possibility for this EVO to be 40-45 K base, up to 55K fully loaded. As stated, that is really stretching into other pricing markets and that does actually have me thinking about getting an 08-09 M3 instead.
I too agree with the post. I'm pretty sure it's going to be available with just the SST. Hyundai equipped their Veloster with a DCT and that model sells like hot cakes over the manual version. GTR's are selling just fine and even subby is looking into the technology for their STI. I for one am glad I owned a MR because I saw the potential, speed, and now I know that I'm not suited for paddles.

Although your post is extremely hard to read, I somewhat agree with your argument.

Let's see some examples:
2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution base price: $27,000
2005 BMW M3 Coupe (e46) base price: $47,000
2012 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution base price: $35,000
2012 BMW M3 Coupe (e92) base price: $60,000
You have to take into consideration new technologies put into these cars which cost the manufacturer money, and also currency disparity and/or devaluation... 35k of today is not 27k of back then of course... but it's just not worth the argument when the M3 price is also up a good 27% from the last model...

Aren't you also making more money than you were 5 years ago?

I'm actually more interested to see what, if any, they will do with the last year (2013) Evo X. I may trade my 2011 for it and then figure out later on down the road weather these new tech cars will be my cup of tea or not.
we will never see a hybrid Evo. Marketing 101, yo. Mits will kill the Evo before they make it a hybrid.
The fact that they just released the 4B11 in 2008 leads me to believe they will continue relatively unchanged for another generation at least. Nobody invests that much money into a new engine platform to only use it for 3 years.

^ You must know more than the president of Mitsubishi. In case you have not been paying attention, Mitsubishi is on a green initiative, much like Honda. They are committed to hybrids and electric cars in the future. As much as I love the 4B11T in my Evo, if I were a betting man, I would bet the house that you are wrong and that the next Evo will be a Hybrid. I wish you were right, but there is the 2016 fuel economy regs and then those ridiculous numbers in 2025.
Im a tech for Mits and thats what i heard too.
Confirmed by
President Osamu Masuko:
The next-generation Lancer Evolution "XI" will be a diesel-hybrid vehicle.
“We will start work on the project next year, and it will be ready within three,” said Masuko. “I have set the goal of developing a sporting car featuring electric power.”

Don't forget the "Evo" is just a Lancer sub model, like the Rallisport, GS, LS, whatever. We are a million more times likely to see a Lancer Hybrid than a Lancer Evolution Hybrid. It would be financial suicide for Mits and they will never do it.
Every year there is some sort of rumor. In after they killed the 2G DSM, the rumor was hybrid Eclipse. Then after the next model year, same deal. Truth was they killed the DSM to sell the Evo stateside, as the marginal cost of production was smaller.
Mits loves rumors making it sound like they're going green. It's good for business. But diesel cost to consumers is 20% higher than gasoline. Again, Mits answers to a board of directors and economists. Creating a new platform based on eliminating their flagship, and doing so to produce a car that would cost consumers MORE to drive will never happen.
Also, remember they consider the Eclipse a "sports car"-that would be more likely to see a diesel engine than an Evo.

Not a chance. The market determines production. Sales already lag on a performance sedan for Mits-could you imagine a performance HYBRID sedan? No way, no one would buy it, and, the cost of development would be prohibitive anyways. It's a simple matter of marginal cost and marginal benefit.

Please don't throw your hypothetical "economics 101" bs at people. It doesn't fly. And revisit the comments by Mitsubishi's president, who hates racing and was the one who stated that the next Evo will be a diesel/hybrid. Maybe you know more than he does, and maybe you know more than all the automotive media in the world. I guess that you make you a genius. But nyah, I don't think so.
If I had my way, Mitsubishi would have a lineup full of performance cars. They would have Evo drivetrains in Outlander Sport models. If you really think you know something, then tell me why Honda has gone the direction it has. Honda has made it clear that the next NSX will be a hybrid. And don't forget what both Audi and Peugeot are racing in LeMans/ALMS. Yes, diesel/hybrids!
