All I ask is that the XI:
Be a turbo diesel hybrid
Be capable of up to ~40 mph in electric mode
Have ~20 mile range in electric
Be a plug-in hybrid

If the above are true, I will definitely be on board. Depending on how things progress for me, personally, I will either trade my current EVO in for the XI or buy the XI outright, relegating my X to a dedicated track car. And if the new EVO can't live up to those standards, oh, well... At least I still have an X.

Weigh less than 3500-lbs, preferably closer to 3k-lbs.
Handle & stop as well, if not better, than all previous Evos.
Get at least 30MPG or better.
Do not use cheap, noisy interior of $20k car in $40k car.
Be AWD. Be fast & nimble. Be reasonably priced. Look good.

Which powertrain they choose to accomplish this does not matter.

I just dont understand people sometimes...on that same note, my boss drives an S5 and said he is glad he got the last year of the V8, even though the next gen is going to be a v6 turbo that is faster and has better mileage...he said he just likes the look and sound of the V8

Not only is this a horrible idea. As an enthusiast, the prospect of buying a 50k car that you can't even modify is absurd! trying to get even an extra 30hp out of a deisel electric hybrid will be quite a challenge! seems like in the past 4 years mitsubishi and subaru have been ruining the pedigree of these cars by making them heavier, slower, and less enjoyable to drive!

How do you know what it's like to modify the EVO XI??? Have you worked on one before??? People can make some big gains on diesel platforms.

Just relax and wait for the car to come out. If it sucks... then by all means complain... but it doesn't make sense to complain about a car that doesn't even exist yet. Technically Formula 1 cars are hybrids... technically the most successful cars in Lemans and ALMS are diesels...

Give the technology a chance... times are changing.

I realize that I shouldn't be talking badly about a car that hasn't been released yet. But I have been an electrician and electrical engineer for over ten years so their are certain things that worry me. An electric motor is an electric motor period. You cannot increase the power output of an electric motor whether it be an AC or DC motor. Generally and I do mean for the most part, hybrid vehicles come with smaller displacement combustion engines, than a non hybrid would. That is why I was talking about a hybrid being difficult to modify. It's because you are limited to modifying the Diesel or Gas engine only, and being a much smaller displacement you are generally limited with how much power that engine can handle. And that's only the beginning. Next you have to consider that, electronically, hybrid vehicles are much more complex, so when prospected with modifying one you really need to know how it is going to affect the rest of the vehicle. Don't get me wrong I agree with you that we can't judge until we see the finished product. But I'm a firm believer that simpler is generally better / more reliable.

Who is to say the displacement will go down? Could still be 2 liter 4 cyl. seems to love that displacement even though they aren't directly competing in Gruppe-N standards. Many of their cars still have that displacement. Also, who is to say there still won't be a turbo on it? Look at Ford and what they are doing with turbos. I'm sure wouldn't mind hopping on the green wagon with turbos.

Also, I can think of too many examples to believe that simpler is generally better / more reliable. Starting with air planes. Really depends on the context. The Evo is already an engineering madhouse of technological advances. I want to see it be pushed into the 21st century of technology. Out of all the automobile companies, I really feel has the best engineers to pull off the best technology for the cheapest amount possible.

True... I think Mitsu is entering the realms of MB and BMW with the 2013 Outlander... I was reading about side sensors, line departure warning, auto-cruise control, etc... bunch of stuff that might seem as though Mitsu is just catching on... that's fine, they are behind when it comes to comfort features and what not... but when it comes to drivetrain technology, man, I think the Evo X is well ahead many, many, many other manufacturer's gems :\

I am for diesel, but I would prefer the electric to be for acceleration bursts and not be for an electric only mod. That chews up the juice too quickly. If it does come with all this technology and it does cost 50k, good luck selling it.

^^This, so many times this. Why complain about Mitsubishi jumping a few years ahead?

I agree. I think the diesel/hybrid performance market could actually be viable. Just because the hybrids we've seen to date have been economy oriented, doesn't mean you can't make something that is performant.

well at least they listened to the conumers for the most part. i think it's pretty cool mitsubishi is going in another direction with the evo. turbo, diesel, electric hybrid. dont see that everday...yet. hopefully it's as sweet as theyre making it sound like.
think they'll havethe ralliart trim still be like the older evos? like the XI will be the hybrid and ralliart would be like the X?
