"Evo XI" rumors, speculations, and media reports.
that's bullcrap. the next lancer is due out any day regardless of evo or no evo. these things take years in the design phase before they hit the showroom. the current lancer is already behind. nobody sells the same car for more than 5 years and mitsu is no exception.
According to WCF: "Next-generation Mitsubishi Evo back on track, company still debating a hybrid powertrain" http://www.worldcarfans.com/11311226...-company-still
Doesn't matter no one wants this ****ty combination of diesel and batteries. Not to mention that diesels don't sell in the U.S very well because they cost more to fill up. Stupid people at MITSUBISHI, they might as well just close the doors now and save a few billion dollars.
But then bring back the Eclipse and offer it in a 4 cylinder, 4cylinder turbo, possibly a V6, FWD, AWD, and then a hybrid.
I agree that Hybrid is just gumming up the works (more things to go wrong). Getting diesel is not that hard. So, I don't see that as being that terrible of a sticking point.
In any case, I wish they could bite the bullet and go full electric like the Tesla's. Electric motors are far more responsive and efficient (~85+% of stored power converts to real power - torque and speed... whereas internal combustion engines are only about 25-30% for gas and turbo diesel closer to 35%)
Also, you can do amazing control algorithms with electric motors and you can completely do away with a transmission... especially if they would go with (but they won't) 4 inside-out wheel motors (kinda like suped up fan motors). Could have most of your weight directly on the wheels, and the battery weight distributed along the frame. It could be very maneuverable.
Add to that the electric control of slip... you could avoid buring tire and get your peak off-the-start traction/power everytime. (guess they could add something to turn it off so you could smoke all 4 wheels at once if ya wanted too)
Anyway, electric motors and drives are what I do for a living. So, I'm excited to see what they come up with, but I fully expect to be disappointed.

Maybe a gran turismo 6 release like the vette?
Turbo-diesel hybrid? Yes, please.
Built on a bespoke platform? Uh-oh ... sounds expensive. Sounds like Mitsbubishi is doing with the Evo what Nissan did with the GTR.
Still, hybrids and electrics are the future. Anything with the word "Evolution" in its name needs to get on board.
Heck, even without hybrid tech the Evo hasn't kept up with the competition over the past 10 years.
When I first started driving Evos in 2004 a well-driven Evo could keep up with a slightly-less-well-driven Vette around a round course, and would absolutely pwn Mustangs (except the Cobra R with IRS). Now? I would lose a stoplight drag against a secretary in a V-6 Mustang, unless it was raining.
Mitsu needs to either step up with the next Evo, or just put it out of its misery. If the article is close to accurate, Mitsu plans to step up.
What's the over/under on the Evo XI making it into production before Half-Life 3 is released?

My VIII also went across the George Washington Bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge, traversed most of Route 66, did the Tail of the Dragon, spent some time in Mexico, and spent some time in Canada.
And while driving it I once got busted by a cop airplane while doing 100+ mph.
Yes, it was stock. And, yes, I drove it daily. But I would argue that I used that car exactly the way it was meant to be used.
