My 1g TSi FWD was a mere mid 2700 lbs. The GSX version should be near the 3000 lbs mark.
The 2g is heavier because of luxury items and stuff but shouldn't be pushing beyond 3200 lbs.

I would think the EVO would take the GSX, but then again ive never driven a GSX. A stock EVO i know would smoke a sock GSX, and even if they had the same horsepower, im fairly certain the EVO would win, unless the guy cant drive. Oh well, its impossible to sit here and say who's gonna win......u gotta just go out and race him on the strip to see who will win!
I really think it will be a driver's race if both cars had same power and weight, the cars in that situation are just to similiar. Yet the EVO is going to make power more easily than GSX and run quicker times more easily. Nothing against the GSX, it's just that the 4G63 in the EVO is newer, stronger, and better than the version in the Eclipses. The EVO is the natural step up from the Eclipse for 4G63 fanatics. $2,000 worth of mods on the stock turbo on an EVO can put you at around 330-350WHP and low to mid 12s. You will not see the same gains on an Eclipse with the same investiments (I'm talking normal situations, so don't tell me well I can make my own boost controller, get used parts off of E-Bay and etc. and only spend $800. See if you can save $1,200 on parts on the Eclipse, the EVO owner could do the exact same thing).
The Evo engine is tuned at a higher level from the factory. I believe the GSX is heavier. My 91 GSX weighed about 3800lbs. It was heavy for a compact car. You also have to remember that the Evo was built with racing in mind, hence the lighter weight. Even from experience with driving both cars, the GSX definitely felt heavier. The Evo feels like a lightweight. Maybe it's because my GSX had the small TD04 turbo.
if it weighed 3800 you must have been one fat lug or just happened to be looking at the GVWR. 1g's weight 3150, 2g's are slightly heavier, somewhere on the order of 50 to 100 lbs.
IF they (evo and gsx) had the EXACT same hp and TQ, and the gsx was a MT, and they had IDENTICAL drivers, then on paper the gsx would win because of the lower weight and it actually has a shorter 1st gear. However, in a 1/4 mile, the evo would probably win in real life mostly becuase of wear factors on the gsx and a much, much better trans (faster shifts).
However, you must realize that even if you're talking about a stock evo, the gsx is going to need mods in order to get to 270ish hp and most of the mods will put it over that mark quickly. If I were looking for cars to race in my unmodded-evo, I'd watch out for dsm's.

I hate these EVO vs. DSM debates, I mean they both have huge potential, because they both pretty much have the same engines. Still are slight differences and the EVOs 4G63 is newer and stronger than Eclipse version. Still both have huge potential, just alot easier in the EVO, and I know there are tons of quick DSMs, because they've been around for over 15 years, but in 15 years look at how many EVOs will be as quick and quicker. Any 4G63 fan should not look at the EVO as competition but as the natural next step.

Approx weight of a 99 GSX around 3350. This should be the heaviest model in all the years.
At last, DSMs are getting old. It can't take much before it waves a white flag.
As for racing:
stock for stock either the 1g or 2g . . . Evo wins outright.
build up the 1g and 2g (using Evo 3 16G) to the specs of an Evo . . . 2g won't win but the 1g should eek out a fender length win.
