I said a slight difference, not a huge difference. The difference in my Evo MR and my 1g DSMs is night and day. When you drag race in a car with 130k miles and 10 years of wear on shocks/struts/springs, it makes a difference. I have several pics of my car nearly squatting all the way to the ground and with the front tires almost off the ground. It then would do the rocking chair on the 1-2. A 99 2g would probably be in better shape than any DSM I ever owned ('90, '91, '93). On the other hand, my MR just goes straight as an arrow with ease and with 0 difficulty on the 1-2 speed shift. A 2g

1G suspensions are notorious for squatting a ton in the rear. And the huge squat that they do also is accompanied by a huge gain in negative camber. It is horrible for launching since your contact patch changes so drastically.

2Gs have a completely different suspension, though. They don't squat nearly as much. And the squat that does occur doesn't give nearly as much negative camber gain as on a 1G.

And, as you said, 2Gs aren't nearly as old and worn out as all of the 1Gs out there.

Curb weight is generally defined as the vehicle, with all fluids (including fuel) topped off. Just like that, on a scale.

GVW is defined as curb weight + Maximum Allowed Cargo (ie- passengers and stuff).

So, what this means is a car can have a curb weight of 3100 lbs, and a GVW of 3800 lbs. Thus meaning that the car with occupants should not exceed 3800 lbs. ie- no more than 700lbs of cargo. Generally 3-4 people, or a bunch of junk.

Most people make the mistake of reading the GVW plackard on the door jam, thinking this is how much the car weighs. Obviously, this is not the case.

I am sure that is what your friend has done, read the GVW plackard. I hope this clears things up.

Hmmm...I thought curb weight was the sum of all design weights of the parts.
