Ran 12.0 with minimal mods!

Hello everyone, not sure if Kay is going to have a chance to reply so I wanted to make a post for her regarding that run etc.
Basically, my MRS Spyder Turbo put a rod through the block (Stock engine, already hurt by old owner) a day before we were scheduled to be in E-Town for the NHRA Spring Nationals, Kay is our office manager so I asked her "would you like to run the EVO this weekend?" And she in typical fashion replied "Did ya forget who your talkin too?" LOL
So, a very late night and a last minute scramble to "de-stock" the one week old 600 mile EVO. We just fabbed up a quick 2.5" upper IC pipe, tossed on my TiAl BOV from my MRS, made a little 3" diameter downpipe cutout, installed the Emanage with timing and injector harness, and our MBC which is very similar to the old school Hallman unit. I also modified the intake pipe to "bypass" the MAS by a certain amount much like the old "hack" mod on the 1g DSM MAS but with the Emanage we can compensate for the additional unmetered airflow and it doesn't suck.
I've been modifying DSM's for years now on a personal and somewhat professional level. Everything from GT35R built motor monsters to 14B budget ghetto racers so this was pretty much old hat for me. (My old beater GSX went 12.5@109mph with about $75 put into it and that's being generous.)
For the tune, I literally tossed the wideband in, made a third gear pull datalogging and based the tune off of that on the fly. So the tune was somewhat based on past experience with DSM's and the Emange and somewhat the feedback we gathered from the quick pull. Not the best tune in the world by any means and overly safe to be sure.
When we got to E-Town on Friday night we decided to make a few shake down runs in the Friday night brackets. Well, on the second run the turbo coolant line decided to split and spray down everything within a 5' area including the windscreen. Thankfully after striking up a conversation with friend Matt Scranton (The Turbo By Garrett 6 second Celica) we pulled the Evo under their 18 wheeler tent and Matt had some hose to replace and few clamps and tools etc (Thanks Matt! I owe you a beer.)...problem is the track closed for the night by the time we got it sorted out.
Rained all day Saturday...
Sunday, got ONE run in and Kay drove it to a 12.4@111mph. Nice
We were also signed up to attend a private track rental on the 12th so we packed up the trailer and went to Lebanon Valley Dragway (Nevermind my MRS still having it's face in the dirt...
) After thinking about the tune for a week and a half I plugged in the laptop and made some changes to the timing tables and fuel tables and whamo...Kay's first run out the box was a 12.3@114mph, then a semi botched run of 12.5@115mph then she kindly offered up the keys and I screwed up the first run with a missed 3rd gear shift (First time really driving the car at the strip.) made a hot lap back around and went 12.0@115mph on the following run. KNOWING the car has an 11 second run in it I gave the keys back to Kay and she set out for the next run and the clutch said "sorry, no soup for you". Sigh...
Kay was cutting the same 60' as me and driving the crap out of the car so I'm 100% sure she would have repeated those results or bettered them.
With the better tune we picked up 4mph at a track known to be slower than our old best trap speed. I'm also 100% confident on straight pump gas I could keep 99% of the tune in tact, as it's not really that agressive. We just dumped some race fuel in for good measure...why not?
The race gas was really a Heins 57 of various race fuels we had dumped into a container and then mixed with her pump gas. Most of the mix was Maximal 117 and VP C16.
On my botched first run I was 5/100's quicker to the 330' mark...without missing a gear that alone would have put that 12.04 run solid in the 11.9 range. Damn it... LOL
Anyhow, Kay and I are very close friends so I'm sure this isn't the end for this car...oh wait what's this on the shelf? Hmmm, GT35R, RPS clutch, HASS Monster IC kit, HASS 3" exhaust with cutout, 880cc injectors, fuel pump, HASS turbo manifold...it's like Christmas!
Anyhow, thanks for the kind words and all. I hope this didn't come off as a spam or anything as it isn't. We do not cater to the EVO crowd as of yet...that may change in the future and until that time I totally respect the current sponsors. This was just a post of two friends sharing some fun adventures with her EVO.
P.S. I wouldn't focus too much on the "girl" part as Kay's been doing this from the heart longer and better than a lot of "guys" I know. (Think Shirley Muldowny or Lisa Kubo.) She's put a hurtin on many a man at the track, some of those guys were right in her own back yard if you catch my drift.
Did I mention she's pretty hot too?

Surprisingly the car is not loud at ALL with the open downpipe...hell I'd probably drive it that way all the time! Actually Kay did drive it for about week that way after E-Town. She's a nut!

ROFL...sorry, it was a big cup O' morning joe.
Yea I don't think it was loud at all...everyone at the shop felt the same way once we heard it. We lowered the lift and were like "eh? that's mild!" Even at the track the noise police didn't say a word on "muffled street night".
Dunno why, maybe it's just all relative.

Edit: Perhaps that stub putting the noise underneath the car made a difference. I know shortening my exhaust tip just by 2-3" on my Eclipse brought much pain...I couldn't believe it.

Nice job Keely.
You should post a pic of that timeslip after you get your clutch fixed and rip down the quater yourself for a high 11's!
Where is Hass Autowerks?
I used to live in Branford, but never heard of it.
You could also just unbolt and remove the test pipe or cat at the track, and just let the down pipe dump under the car. That's just what I used to do in my Dodge.
Of course the other major benefit, is being able to hear your own motor when racing, instead of some big V8 next to you.

Wheming,
Hass Autoworks is in Southington, CT. He has been concentrating on turbo charging cars such as the MR2, G20's, SE-R's, and soon, the Celica. He has been developing/fabricating his own parts/kits. Even though the EVO is not something he has been concentrating on, he does a damn good job with them and he also loves the car.
To everyone wondering about the exhaust-it really wasn't that loud. If you got on it, yeah it was certainly noticeable but no more so than a 3 inch exhaust. Being able to hear the turbo is a beautidul sound
Thanks for the feedback on the times!

Oh, ok.
I go right through Southington on 84 when i head home to my folks house in MA.
I'll probably be up that way this fall.
Take it easy, and good luck. be sure to keep us posted on your improvements.
BTW, which clutch are you going with?
