Times with AMS Intercooler and LICP

My previous best at the track was

60 1.91
330 5.323
1/8 8.145@85.31
1000 10.59
1/4 12.62@113.5

Recently I went to the track after adding an AMS Intercooler and LICP

60 1.98
330 5.399
1/8 8.217@86.99
1000 10.659
1/4 12.70@110.67

I was 3mph less in the trap and ran slower times but only by .08 and my 60ft was .07 slower so it seems I just lost 3mph...

The first time at the track the weather was similar +-5 degrees at 52 and the only difference I noticed was wheelspin thru 1st gear the 2nd time. I have some fairly bald advans on the car so that could contribute but I was really looking forward to faster times. Also, when I would shift out of 1st with the tires spinning the revs seemed to drop down much lower than ever before. Could that be the clutch slipping? Yes, I do know I can run better with a better 60ft and its only my second time at the track. I didnt notice at the time but would upgrading to a larger intercooler like the AMS cause a decrease in boost since its larger than stock?

Why did you buy the Race intercooler and not the regular one instead.

Why do you have a big womping intercooler and a stock turbo???? Until you upgrade your turbo you've just wasted 1K!! Good luck and no go upgrade the turbo.

That is the normal AMS one, its the AMS front mount racing intercooler as listed on their website.

you might have a boost leak, have you checked all your connections? I'd suggest repositioning all your hose clamps and re-tightening them. You should see a nice gain on teh stock turbo with the Intercooler and LICP.

Sorry to hear that you lost 3MPH and ran even slower with more mods.

Well, I have a different story to tell. Since I did my AMS LICP and Buschur Upper Intercooler pipe I did improve my trap speed a steady 1.5-2mph.

I am not Joe Smosh, I am a guy that took my MR to the track and made 53 passes so far( in 10 month period) and they are all documented in www.evolutionmr.ner under drag racing topic and my user name is spaniard'smr.

What I am trying to say is that I am not talking bull****, my car ran consistently faster every single run by just adding the lower and upper intercooler pipes and Buschur Battery . It is inexplicable that you lost 3 MPH and ran slower.

Did you check your boost, I can see you having a big boost dropp due to bigger intercooler area but you should be able to cranck it up(boost). Check your boost leaks.

Good luck!!

yeah, i thought that might be the problem, I just havent had the chance to work on this. If I had a boost leak, would my boost gauge be reading lower than previously? From what I can remember it wasnt any lower than in the past but Ill need to take the car out for a drive to check.

No, that's a common misconception. You are telling your wastegate when to open (21psi or whatever), so the turbo will work as hard as it can to overcome the unknown leak in order to maintain 21psi, which means it could be pushing 24-25 just to SHOW 21 on your boost gauge. BIG leaks can show up as big drops on the boost gauge, but often times you just end up pushing hot air through the turbo without realizing you have a leak.

Does anyone know if a reflash is required after installing an aftermarket intercooler?

I dont think it is but im not 100% sure on that one. I dont think it needs a flash like an intake, cams, fuel pump, etc.. would but I guess it couldnt hurt. Im not getting anything reflashed until I get the alcohol injection since I dont think the intercooler is going to change things enough to the point that things run poorly.

I'm surprised that no one has pointed out the improved trap speed in the 1/8th (almost 2 mph). Looks to me like you were making better power than your previous pass and then the car died on the top end. Looks like maybe knock retard came into play on the big end.

I did notice that looking at the time slips and thought that was strange. Im not sure why this time at the track knock would be a problem top end and last time it was not. At the 1/8 I was 1.6mph faster than my 113mph run but between then and the finish I managed to end up 3mph slower. I had all the hoses off today and re-installed everything, making sure it was tight.

You might have less boost taper now, which could cause knock.
