Shift Point discussion, 7K or higher for MR's

I went to the dragstrip last night with my Evo and logged all of my runs. One of the things I wanted to try to discover was what effect using different shift points had on my car. I was able to create an interesting visual from the log.

These HP / TQ figures are derived from airflow/rpm instead of time/distance/work calculations.

2byte rpm values
1st 7558
2nd 7878
3rd 7886
4th 7843

Conventional Evo wisdom, stock turbo doesnt make usable torque above 7K. Airflow may say otherwise. Discuss.

Do it again but shift at 7k. Compare the two graphs. Right? I can't wait to see the results

The next time I go to the track I'll make sure to get it both ways and I'll update the thread and PM you. Note not all cars have a powerband like mine so this may not change conventional wisdom. I wasnt looking for an argument with Warrtalon in your thread, I'm looking for my ideal shift points too.

You look at your dyno chart and go from there

I'm not going to simply say 7K and that's it. I'm more practical by weighing all of the necessary and required numbers to make the best decision. If you have a dyno chart of your tune available, this website should give you a hand.

http://www.bgsoflex.com/shifter.html

If you need the transmission gear settings for your car, here they are:

Gear Ratios
EVO / EVO RS
1st: 2.785:1
2nd: 1.950:1
3rd: 1.444:1
4th: 1.096:1
5th: 0.761:1
Final Drive: 4.529:1

Gear Ratios
EVO MR
1st: 2.909:1
2nd: 1.944:1
3rd: 1.434:1
4th: 1.100:1
5th: 0.868:1
Final Drive: 0.693:1
