I think I have done this before. Is this when you push in the gas enough so that when the rpms hit between 5000-5500rpms it will bounce up and down (the rpms) as if I hit the rev limiter? Because when i did this, i was sitting completely still, on a flat surface, I pressed the gas pedal in and when the rpms hit between 5000, and 5500 rpms, it wouldn't go any higher in the rpms. But I cant remember if I had the lever in 1st gear and the clutch pedal pushed in, or the opposite. Which is the correct method?

Another reasons also, is that I stll have a great warranty. The dealer has replaced everything include calipers without hesitation and I just don't want there to be an instance when I have to beg. I work hard for my money, and if I am going to launch the EVO god knows I'm gonna do some homework on how to do before i actually do so.

You have a EVO, Supra and a Z06? Not to be ignorant, but it seems liks gas would be the least of your worries.

If you launch properly there are no worries for the Tcase and tranny. Release clutch slowly, once it starts grabbing let off it. I have done countless 2steps without breaking... so far

If your letting out the clutch to fast the car will hop around like when you first learned how to drive a stick. If that happens slow it down.

2003 and 2004 evo doesnt have 2-step from the factory. you will need a reflash to get the 2-step.

The 2 step on 03-04 evo 8 are set at 7900 which is higher then rev limiter so you won't be able to use it till you turn it down by flashing your ecu but they do indeed have it.

yep my 03 evo eight was set to like 7500rpm on stationary launch, but I reflashed it to 5500rpms, but still i'm not a fan of 2step launching, that is until I have my shepherd tranny and case and then hope for the axles to hold.

why 5500 rpm? Is there a point in the powerband that is best for setting a two step? I'm guessing this is a trial and error type of thing, anyone have a method for choosing the where to put the two step?

There is. It depends on the mods and your clutch. I just learned how to launch. THe point here is to take up the slack in the drivetrain before you dump the clutch. That is why people are saying you slip it. Once you take up the slack and you feel the car start to move, then you can dump the clutch. You don't want any "impact" forces on the drivetrain, so this is why you take up the slack.

The stock two step is around 5800 on my '06. I have the stock clutch( not for long) and 335 hp and 345 tq. I am getting a new clutch and with it, I will most likely have to raise the two step because the clutch grabs more.

NOTE: If you are inexperienced like I was with launching, don't plan on having the stock clutch for very long. Mine slipps if I boost more than 7 psi, hence the need for a new clutch. This was after going to the track 4 times.

Now just push down that Gas Pedal a little further and you'll notice the pitch of the exhaust note change but keeping the same rythym. Now if you have a boost gauge you'll see it building boost. Now just slip the clutch slightly and hold on to your pants. Remember to have plenty of space to do this.

Yes Make sure no one and nothing is in front of you for awhile???

Good post.

I only half assed read all of these posts, so forgive me if I am double posting. You do need to be in first gear to engage the 5500rpm two step limiter assuming your car has this preset. Also, before fulling releasing the clutch (never do a full, straight clutch dump) let the clutch out slightly to allow the slack in the drivetrain to be taken up, then a slight slip to get things moving and let the clutch all the way out. If you go too slow, you will slip off the clutch and get a nice scent for the next 20 min, done correctly, you should scare yourself how fast you got moving. The whole process from taking up slack to slip to full release is still very quick, but do not go from full disengagement to full engagement or you will have a nice TC bill. Have fun and dont kill anyone
