We had a great time at the Buschur DSM/Evo Shootout, and were very excited about how the Red Demon performed.
During the first round of qualifying, we had an issue with our QM clutch slipping. Thankfully, Tim Zimmer brought a spare Evo clutch with him and with the help of the Boostin Performance crew, we were able to change the clutch in the pits and make it back for the third round of qualifying for the Quick 16 class. With Tim and our crew, we wouldn't have been able to make the qualifying rounds in time. Thanks guys!!!
During the third and final round of qualifying, the clutch felt great, and Devin took it easy and secured his spot in the field with a 9.4 at 161mph.
The first round of the Quick 16, Devin ran a 8.9 @ 166 mph to advance to the second round. (We don't have a video....does anyone else have one?) During the second round, Devin was matched up against the MA Performance RX-7, and caught a break when he red lit. Devin didn't make a pass, and just took the win. The semi-finals brought on a great match up. Devin ended up running an 8.88 at 166mph spinning like crazy out of the hole. This is his best pass to date, and in my opinion, it was one of the best races at Shootout!!!

But don't worry, the Red Demon will be back this weekend with our spare block going in. We're hoping to make an 8.70 pass and some 2G history!

Here is another view of the same pass.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pu-XdBJmg3MAt the end of the event, with the 8.88 pass under Devin's belt, and with the car running perfect, Devin decided to bring the Red Demon out in front of everyone one more time for some T&T. Devin felt there was an 8.70 pass in her. The last pass was perfect with his best 60ft of the day. Looking at the slip of the 8.88 pass, he was .07 faster at the 1000ft. Up until the top of fourth gear, at about 9400 rpm, both rod bolts on cylinder #1 failed, and cut Devins ride short.
Devin coasted to a 9.1 at 13x mph.

Congrats on a Great showing at the Shootout. We are Proud to have had you representing us. This car has lots of potential as it showed. Glad to hear the Pro Sequential Ignition didn't skip a beat. The Pro Sequential has taken over in our Sig, ALL the fast cars are running it.
Thanks for trusting our systems to power the beasts coming out of Boostin Performance.

first i'd like to say congrats for arriving home safe and sound. and second... OMG what a fuxxxxx race! first vid i saw was the one from mid-track or somewhere, my eyes glued on the car. come out of the hole spinning, sliding to the right hooking and sliding to the left slamming second still hooking and booking! that thing looked like the red demon frieght train running that guy down like he was standing still! and than the lights went off and i thru up in my mouth. to bad that guy had to cheat... j/k,( automatic)
the vid from the line shows you were WORKING baby, nice driving as always. and you gotta admit that was nice of that ol block to hold up and get the job done
after what you have put it thru. that crank was seeing well over 1000hp when those bolts snapped, wow! dude your an animal. i'd deffinitly keep that block and turn it into a table or something. i'd love to have been there to help out must have been a hell of a good time. sorry for the long read

I saw the car running the shootout and it sounded great and was obviously hauling. It was definitely one of the best sounding cars there.
Sorry to see oiling issues take out a rod and block. That looks like a Manley rod to me, but regardless of the rod type the failure wasn't the rod's or the bolt's fault. Whenever the big end of the rod turns black and blue like that it was an oiling issue that led to a spun bearing. After the bearing is wiped out it is a short-fuse timebomb before it comes through the block. I just changed over to measuring oil pressure after the filter instead of before the filter like all the mitsu OEM stuff and lost bearings show up INSTANTLY in oil pressure post-filter. I saw 25psi pre-filter and just 3-4psi post-filter at idle when mine spun the center main bearing a week before the shootout. It makes it a TON easier to see stuff like this before it comes out the side of the block (like I did at Norwalk earlier this year as well).
PM me if you want to talk details on the oil pickup setup to hopefully help oiling issues. The OEM oil system is a bit of a train wreck and there is a lot of room for improvement.
Congrats on the great runs, I'm sure you'll be cracking out some 8.7's in no time!

Devin, really sucks to hear about the motor man, that's gotta be gut wrenching
even ray charles coulda seen that!
the 1g got the holeshot, but i would'nt say that was much of a treeing, that 1g cut a hell of light. but that was not by any means the main factor in the outcome! traction......... or lack there of. had the red demon hooked that 1g was done for
even ray charles coulda seen that!
even ray charles coulda seen that! The hole shot is what won that race, end of story. It was a heads up race. Devin ran faster and lost, he slept at the light and had to play catch up on the big end. Obviously the auto 1g had a tenth or more quicker reaction time and got out ahead of devin before devin even left.
It's a race to the finish, not who runs faster lol. That's why it is so important to cut good lights during heads up racing like that cause anything can happen, such as what happened with devin spinning like a ****.
Ya Devin spun like hell, no doubt about that. Devin has the power to go 8.6x's. Once devin finds some more traction the car is going to be an animal, not that it isn't now ha.
On a side note, Devin, have you thought about doing electronic boost control to control the traction? Run lower boost level's in 1st gear to get it to hook better then ramp boost in 2nd/3rd/4th? I think it would really work in your favor. Work wonders in my talon and was one of the only reasons it went 8.66 @165mph. Had I not had the boost control setup via vehicle speed, I would have never hooked up.
