Evo 8 4th gear conversion in evo 9
Evo 8 4th gear conversion in evo 9
I understand the advantage of an evo 8 4th gear as oppose to an evo 9. I was curious, if all things remaining the same (power and weight), would et or mph be affected by the conversion. And if so, how?
ive switched to an 8 3rd and 4th, but have not been back to the track yet, plus ive changed too much for a "good" comparison
So are you saying it wouldn't effect et or mph ?
My car is passing the line at 117+ and after 7k rpm for reference. I'm trying to break into tens on stock turbo which is out of air at 7500.

Just from switching the gear ONLY, I would think the car would ET slower, but possibly trap slightly higher. My reasoning is that since the gear is longer, the car needs more power to pull the gear in the same amount of time. Since you aren't bumping power with the gear swap, it should take longer to run through 4th. Conversely, you are accelerating for a longer period of time, and also not running out of gear before the trap so your MPH might go up.
I might be way wrong, but in practical terms it seems to make sense. Let me know how it goes if you did the swap for some reason.
*edit* just re-read your post. Your ET will go down and your MPH will go up. You are on a stock turbo which makes it's peak torque earlier in the rev range, so you will actually be able to take advantage of the turbo's sweet spot for longer.
