on a stock Evo your shift points should be around 6500 rpm's (short shift do to the tourqe curve) and i think it is up to you to work on your own launch, everyone does it different,
i personally roll the clutch out & roll the throttle at about 3000 rpms (decent launch)

hope this helps

So shifting at 6500, give or take a hundred rpms, will yield the fastest times?

I know for sure that running a stock Evo past the 7000rpm redline (shut off is like 7600 or so) doesn't do any good.... it runs out of breath..... I tried it for a couple of runs......

I'd really like to hear proven theories on this, cuz I haven't been to the drags yet.

Really you want to shift just after the curve starts to fall that way the time it takes you to shift will bring you back into the power band.

has anyone acually tried power shifting yet. i was wondering how easily it is to guide through the gears without letting off the gas. basically thats the technique that i learned early in my start of driving and i have had great results. i have yet to have the oportunity to get my hands on an evo yet to try it out. just wanted to know if anyone uses that method.
