If I'm not mistaken the MR 6 speeds have different ratios, making the 5 speeds longer gears so their 4th gear will take you well into 5th. However, I might be completely wrong.

 

Most evos are also 5 speeds

It's your 6 speeds gearing that's making you have to keep shifting. The faster you get the more you'll need to shift.

 

Yes the MR 6 speed will require you to hit 5th gear during a good pass. That is why sometimes you will see MR guys using the 8 gsr 3rd and 4th gears. Honestly, if I were you, I would start saving for a rebuild for your trans soon. The MR 6spd is notriously weak and starts falling apart after mid 400 tq.

 

Well its been running with no problem whatsoever for 80K miles. and still shifts like butter.
but i will take your advice and start saving up for Shep 6speed gears. Actually i have been saving up.

 

do you plan on autox or road coursing it more than drag? if not i would go for a 5 speed if you plan only to drag.
