Changing Gears

Do u harm ur gearbox anyway if u don't put the clutch in to change gears when the car is turned off?

I put the clutch in anyway, but now that you posted the question, I started thinking and I think they're right, nothing's moving so nothing it needed to disengage and reengage the gears.
