upshifting/downshifting

I have heard several schools of thought when it comes to upshifting/downshifting.

Is it better to press the clutch all the way when upshifting/downshifting or just enough to be able to throw the stick? Also I've heard that some can shift from 3rd to 4th to 5th without using the clutch at all.

I want to make sure my clutch last as long as possible without doing any unneccessary damage.

Thanks for all the help.

while it is possible to shift in higher gears without the clutch, the practice necessary to master this feat could leave you with very smoothly grounded gears. I say depress the clutch, cause in the lancer it is very possible to miss a gear with a halfway depressed clutch. My stepdad has a 91 miata with 110,000 miles on it and the original clutch, he downshifts like I do going into every corner and stop.

I agree with pimp. in my old hyundia excel i used to use the no clutch method once i got the car moving in first. that lasted about 8 months and then the car was all but dead. in that car i didn't really care, c'mon it was a hyundia with 190,000 miles!!! i wouldn't think of it in a new car. unless i paid 300 bucks for that too.
